I didn't really plan on buying when I went to the shop, but this 660 felt like the one for me and I couldn't let it go. The guitar sounds amazing too. The few stores that do carry rickenbacker tend to only keep one or two in stock and mark the prices way up Is that how it is where you're at? Or are there none at all? Top (1980) 360-12WB, w/added Toaster pickups, and old style knobs & tailpiece. Middle 1982 320 "Miami" w/added "R" tail piece, and Gold Plastic. Bottom 1982 360-12'64 Reissue...Stock! Yes, I still have factory original parts, in case I ever want to "go back" to strictly "original" spec's. The "R" tailpiece was added, strictly as a "sanity saving" device. But, they all have their good points. It's odd, that both 360's sound just a little bit different. I think it's because the "toaster" pickups, on the top one were replacements, and not "original" spec's. Ric started back with the original spec's when the '64 Reissue came out. Before that, the replacement "toasters" were a bit hotter wound. So, I think that's the main difference. But, they still sound like a Ric, and like no other!! I've often wondered, if the pickup placement is a factor, as well. The upper one, has the pickups closer together due to the neck being further into the body, than the '64 version. The neck in the upper one, is a bit thicker, more C shapped, with a rounded heel. The lower one, is thinner, and "flatter" on the back, and a squared off heel, as was typical in the early '60's. No big deal, just interesting. There's only about 2 years difference, between the two. The upper one was purchased in 1980, the lower in 1982. I noticed the 620 has different pickups, not really sure exactly what the difference is, but both types sound good. Honestly I don't even know if the toaster is a humbucker or single coil but it sounds great. My 360-12WB (the top one, in the photo) came with "High Gain" pickups originally. I preferred the Toaster tones, for the 12-string, because that's the tone/sound I grew up on, and that my '60's Ric-12 had. But, the High Gain pickups are pretty awesome, in their own right. Some think they sound better, on 6-string Ric's, than the "Toaster's?" You'll just have to decide if they're what you prefer, or not. They can always be changed. More than slightly Beatle-esque and a welcome alternative to the Fender/Gibson assumptions... <_< Supply seems to ebb and flow in the UK... Great guitars...!! The 620 is $1,400 new, so you could find one for under 1k again Now I'm trying to decide if I should just trade my Tele in on this to lessen the blow to my wallet. Frankly it plays way better, looks cooler, and sounds like what I wish my Tele sounded like.
