j45 neck question

Recommended Posts

Throughout the years the necks on Gibsons have changed numerous times, so its possible. Plus, with a handcrafted guitar like a Gibson, each one of the same model and era may not be exactly the same.

Hope this helps.

I've had a couple '93s and in both instances the necks were a little rounder and fuller than others. Fluke? maybe. Just sharing my own experience.

I have two 93 J-45s made a few months apart.

The necks could not be more different. One being thin and low profile,

the other a baseball bat D shape. Both awesome!

Back in the dawn of creation Gibson was cutting the necks out with a ball carver and a guy named Leonard would hand sand the on a spindle sander. If a neck blank had a dark spot or knot in it Leo would just sand it out so.... You could get just about any size neck on your Gibson that Leonard could create.

The necks became much more consistent when the CNC machines came into operation. Leonard? He moved up north...
