Cardiholic Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Hello, I have an old 1964 B25 that was in a very wet environment for a long time. I noticed that the back of the body is not flat. The back is slightly rounded, like a bulge. I'm wondering if this is supposed to be rounded or if it's supposed to be flat. If it is supposed to be flat, is there any way to fix it? Thanks very much.
duluthdan Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 All of my guitars have a slight arch in the back, part of the design. If you think yours may be extreme. it might be helpful to post a picture - here's how: http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/11005-sticky-how-to-post-photos/
j45nick Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Both the back and the top should have a slight dome, but slight. If you put a straightedge across the back in the middle of the lower bout, it should hit in the middle, and have a gap of about 1/4" at each edge. The top should have a similar dome across the guitar just behind the bridge. What you don't want are hollows and irregular bumps, either longitudinally or transversely.
Cardiholic Posted April 2, 2014 Author Posted April 2, 2014 Ok great. I will post a picture in a while. Thanks for replies. it may be more than 1/4 inch but I will see.
StijnV Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Maybe a humidipak to de-hydrate is an option ? : http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/planet-waves-humidipak-humidity-control-system Kind regards, Stijn Vergeest Gibson Europe Customer Service 00800-4GIBSON1 00800-44427661 www.gibson.com service.europe@gibson.com
