Rabs Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Ive been on here for over two years now and I was told at the beginning that people always ask the same questions and after a while you will just see the same thing over and over.. How true that was.. Of course im not knocking people who ask these questions, I probably asked half of them myself (if not ALL :)) when I first joined and well we all gotta learn somehow.. I was just wondering... The poll questions are the ones I think that really get asked over and over... I know theres more (which strings/picks (everything) do you use (and yes what coffee do you drink :P) So what do you reckon are the most asked questions on here of all time.. And whats the strangest or most amusing question or topic that you have seen on here?
milod Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I think some of those questions have been asked so often one would be forced to do a search and count. <grin> As to most bizarre... I dunnno. I tend to forget some by conscious intent. m

I was also trying to think of one of the odd ones and must have placed a mental block in that area lol :) It is amazing what the human mind is capable of doing to protect itself ;)
tulee12! Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 "What do you guys put on your hot dog?" Is a recent odd one that comes to mind. :-) How high do I set my pickups? Does weight affect tone? What are the best strings? What size neck is on a... (fill in the blank)?
Rabs Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 Actually one does come to mind... That whole Nub/Nib over under on top of beneath binding debate... and it went on for so long.... :) that all kind of went over my head.. JUST PLAY THE DAMN THINGS!!! ;)
Ryan H Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 As AXE® isn't here... "Long tenon or short tenon?" Answer is pretty obvious... -Ryan
deeman Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 My guitar was made in year x. Is it chambered? Edit: Did not see the poll when I posted
L5Larry Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 As the offspring of a long line of school teachers, I will have to say that there are no stupid questions, JUST STUPID PEOPLE!
daveinspain Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 "What do you guys put on your hot dog?" Is a recent odd one that comes to mind. :-) Yeah, that one was from a guy 7 posts away from 9000 posts... I guess there are just so many guitar related topics you can make so once in a while a personal taste question adds some spice...
brundaddy Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 "What guitar should I buy?" "What amp should I buy?" "Why can't I think for myself?"
pauloon Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 "What guitar should I buy?" "What amp should I buy?" "Why can't I think for myself?" ''What should I do?''
capmaster Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 In my opinion, most questions asked here are serious ones. You may view huge lots of guitars and amps via web, but many folks just haven't any opportunity to play a handful different ones at a dealer, let alone several of the same model. Viewing internet videos will give you a clue but not a real feel. Listening to a guitar through a heavily overdriven amp or pedal won't help evaluating the instrument. So people are looking for advice from other people they consider being knowledgeable, experienced and helpful. There are no dumb questions, just dumb answers I believe. Lots of similar questions coming up again and again are likely to be sensible, especially when specified in a certain way. On the other hand, I think that posting coffee or hot dog topics is the very sense of a Lounge. There are people, things and events in our lives different from musicians, music, musical instruments and recording, e. g. all those I write my lyrics about

If they got to really know some of us, they might think otherwise ...lol
Karloff Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 hey Daveinspain, it should have been "what do you put on your hotdog, when youre playing your gibson that may or may not be chambered and maybe made in china" come on man, get with the program...
IanHenry Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 It's fine people asking about which guitar they should get (when I got my first Gibson, I'd no idea how many different models of Les Paul there are) but the thing that gets me is the constant obsession with solid, chambered and weigh relived, what does it matter so long as it plays and sounds right? At least the hang up about how many pieces of wood you've got in your guitars body seems to have abated. Ian

I guess such questions come up looking for sincere answers from people who might have experienced these differences. Some forum members choose a certain Les Paul model with particular neck profile, fretboard and pickups for achieving a special tone. I think it is OK when a newbie wants to learn about those variations for getting an idea what to look for at a retailer.
krock Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I went back to the oldest threads on this forum and lots when political arguments were occurring. I think a few people were banned over those, but it made an interesting read anyway
Rabs Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 I must just re-iterate on the thread... This is not about stupid questions... Its just about the most asked and unusual questions... I agree that people need info and that's why they come here which is why we are all here... and the threads in the lounge are meant to be varied and not necessarily serious or about guitars (like this one :)). But I do think that asking if you can play a certain type of music on a guitar is a bit silly. Especially when they ask if you can play classic rock on a LP, I mean come on.. :)
LPguitarman Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I voted for all of them, because I've seen a lot of each one.

milod Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 The thing is, when you have a group of folks who don't really know each other, who are of a huge range of age and/or guitar experience, it's pretty natural to have some questions that seem "stupid" to a bunch of folks. Generally I think this forum has been pretty courteous to courteous questioners - but I know I've wondered on occasion if some "dumb" questions were from trolls to see what'd come along. I tend to try not to respond on those... It can be difficult, too, when we may combine some folks in a "lounge" setting who are/have been strictly electric pickers in one sort of style for a long time, along with others with far less experience, but inclinations toward another style. For example, to me it seems "dumb" to suggest that the Fender Strat is "the only blues guitar." It may be for "Picker A," but definitely not for "Picker B." But we do hear that at times. I personally figure the best guitar for any genre of music is the one that the picker is most comfortable playing to get what it is that he/she wants from his/her music. I don't care for either the Strat or the LP - but I'll certainly proclaim that folks who are comfortable with them, are skilled and talented, can get some serious sound out of them. So... I guess you could say that I'd say there's seldom a single appropriate answer even to the apparently simplest question by a beginner - even through a more complicated answer may not be what the questioner hopes for. m
ksdaddy Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I have no problem with, and in fact welcome a question that is asked in earnest, regardless of how many times it's been tossed around. The only questions that irk me are the ones where "Grampa left me an old geetar that says Gibson on it. It has all kinds of sentimental value and we'd never part with it, but umm just out of curiosity and insurance purposes, what is it worth?" Just be honest, you bought it at a yard sale and you want to know how much you can flip it for. I'll respect that a lot quicker than the Grampa story.
