Rabs Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Wow, that was cool. Never seen that before, some GREAT footage there (Youtube just keeps on giving :)) some song facts Jimi Hendrix's version of "Gloria" was first included on the 1979 compilation, The Essential Jimi Hendrix Volume Two, as a 7 inch, 331⁄3 RPM, one-sided single. It is also included on the 2000 released box set, The Jimi Hendrix Experience. His version was not a traditional cover he included entire verses of his own creation, and appeared to be ad-libbing as he went along. The lyrics included lines about drummer Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VC6SRgCA9Do
Pin Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I've not seen that one before either. Thanks for that Rabs.
jdgm Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Yes I've always liked that one, great rough one-off. Hadn't seen all of that footage though. They were so powerful weren't they? The Lulu show was around the same time or a bit later. Also'The Stars That Play With Laughin' Sam's Dice' is such a classic and his solo entry still does me in everytime to this day. 'The BBC Sessions' is live-in-the-studio and unmissable, and I can really recommend to any Jimi Hendrix fan who hasn't heard it the 'Live at Clark University' CD which has by far the greatest live 'Purple Haze' I have ever heard. Trust me..... And they're all gone now. Amen.
