jimmi accardi Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I had the Kent Armstrong P90 Dogears put in my Casino and it made all the difference. They are 8.2k I can get much better rhythm and picking 'sparkle' with these than the Chinese Epiphone pups that came with the guitar. And they sound very balanced and are a bit more trebly. The originals were muddy and wouldn't really 'clean up' fully when I backed up the volume knobs on the guitar. This solved the problem. Also, one of the new pups is reverse wound so I get no noise at all with both pickups in the center position. And the Kent Armstrongs were a direct drop-in replacement! I'm happy.

Congratulations on finding your sound. I'm a big fan of KA pickups and have/have had tele, mini humbucker and p-90 PUs on various guitars, and love them. I can't compare to, say, GFS, because I've never owned any. But I consider KAs up there, for mid-priced pickups. Pretty hard to beat, for the money. My tele hot rod clone, with the "hot" bridge and mini-humbucker neck, sounds amazing, without spending a fortune.
Whitmore Willy Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Glad to hear you are pleased with the KA's. +1 Jimmi and Tweed, I'll keep this in mind for the next time I'm in the market for some pickups. Thanks for the reviews. Willy
jimmi accardi Posted April 8, 2014 Author Posted April 8, 2014 PS... I picked them up on Ebay for half price (brand new)!
DonCarlos Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Jimmi How about a picture. Would like to see what they look like. Were the drop in? I have a gorgeous MIK-Peerless, but always wanted to change the pickups.
Les Pauler Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Jimmi How about a picture. Would like to see what they look like. Were the drop in? +1 My Wildkat has a very quiet neck pickup and would like to know more about your install. Jay
jimmi accardi Posted April 10, 2014 Author Posted April 10, 2014 Well, I don't have a picture but they were direct 'drop-in' and look exactly the same as the ones that came with the guitar. I brought the guitar to my music store where they swapped the pickups for me. I was afraid to do it myself.
