rocketman Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 This view is amazing, especially when he hits Mach 1. I didn't know that he got into a flat spin and almost lost it. This guy is just nuts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYw4meRWGd4
Dennis G Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 I remember watching this when it happened. I was sitting at my PC and had sweaty hands, let alone the 30-45 minute rise to altitude!!! To take nothing away from Felix, however, I gotta give the "big stones" award to Kittinger, who while not jumping from the same altitude, was really the first guy to attempt this, and more than 50 years earlier. How much has technology advanced in that time frame? Holy Moly! Good on the both of 'em. This is a different angle from what was broadcast on the original jump live, but I do remember them talking about the flat spin being the one thing they were concerned about, and had practiced how to get out of one should it happen.
jdgm Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 That was one hell of a solo......if you've seen the long-range footage he was spinning pretty fast but knew what to do to get out of it. Something else eh? I agree about Kittinger. And yes it is nuts. When you see how far up he is...!!!
