ballcorner Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Do you read Fretboard Journal? Do you subscribe? Is there enough Gibson in it for you? Do you like the magazine, the service from Occasional Publishing (subscribers) and the content?
hlarry14 Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 I subscribe to Fretboard Journal, and while I never really thought about it in terms of how much Gibson content there is, I will say that it is one of the most beautifully produced magazines I've seen. I've moved almost all my other periodical subscriptions to iPad versions, but even thought FJ has an electronic version I keep my print subscription. The articles are well written and most importantly for me in-depth. It's printed on really nice premium paper, and the photos are very well done. I'm interested in guitars in general, not just Gibsons (although my favorite acoustics that I own are all Gibsons) and I don't know that I've ever skipped an article in FJ - they are always of interest to me. As far as customer service, I've never had to contact them. I will say that they ship these beautiful periodicals in a sturdy cardboard envelope that keeps them in good shape despite my mail carriers best attempts at mutilating them.
goaty76 Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 I became addicted to the FJ because I found it to be a great balance of both vintage and modern with well researched in-depth articles for the player, collector, builder, and just general music enthusiast (nut). The quality of the articles as well as the actual physical publication inspired me to submit a few articles both of which were on vintage Gibson instruments (issues #25 & #30). Any future writings from me would probably also be in the realm of early/interesting Gibsons as that's my main focus. However I must say that within each issue I savor every article. I love those that are on topics I am familiar with and am thankful for those that introduce me to new ones. Phil
duluthdan Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 I do not have a subscription, but occassonally pick up a copy when I see one, always a good deal of info. I'm usually a sucker for one if the cover content is of immediate interest, and love the occasional articles by that contributing writer, John Thomas.
tvguit Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 I've been given a subscription in the past and I really enjoyed getting them in the mail. I'd like to subscribe every year.
