Romchip Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Evening all! I am looking to top wrap my new Joe Bonamassa US Les Paul Standard (bring the tailpiece down into the body as it is really high but maintain the 'break' angle of the strings as the action needs raising a touch) but I would like to purchase a 'spare' tailpiece to use (& keep the original aside). The guitar is kitted out with a TonePro locking tailpiece & there seem to be a couple of options in the chrome dependent on measurement. Anyone know which option I should get?
GibSinCity Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 The TonePros Model T1ZS seems to be what you might be looking for. "Standard style Locking Stop Bar Tailpiece. Fits most Tune-O-Matic Style guitars. The T1ZS features standard US threads that fit most USA guitars. The T1Z features metric threads that fit most imported guitars and many USA models without modification." http://www.tonepros.com/products/

Better product description than I had seen previously...
Romchip Posted April 18, 2014 Author Posted April 18, 2014 Ok, so it looks like in the UK the standard Chrome T1ZS is 'out of stock' but the T1ZSA-C (aluminium vintage) is stocked by various places. Anyone have any opinion (DANGER DANGER) on whether the aluminium version is worth the £30 ($45) difference?
GibSinCity Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Aluminium tailpieces are used on Gibson Historics, so that's something to consider. There are alot of variables that will make a difference in tone. Here are some discussions on the subject: https://www.google.com/search?q=gibson+aluminum+tailpiece+site:forum.gibson.com&rls=com.microsoft:en-US&biw=1293&bih=663
Romchip Posted April 21, 2014 Author Posted April 21, 2014 Awesome, again thank you. Turns out the brother-in-law is off to San Francisco this week so he may be able to pick up the part stateside which will make life easier (& cheaper!!!)
