Your guitar collection

I have a small collection of guitars ( currently 9), have always been the kind of person that felt more inspired, creative with having different instruments to choose to play. But at the same time, wonder if I have missed a special bond you would get from owning just one guitar. I am still wanting to add two more Les Pauls, as well an L5 or Byrdland, and also a acoustic and classical. I have never really felt a need for an acoustic, probably in part to having hollow body instruments?

I play all of my instruments, view them as tools but also as works of art, so I guess that is why I have a few. Sometimes I just like to look at them and admire the woods and finish( not even play them). I have a sickness, [drool] I like how they smell, the feel, the looks, how every one is slightly different and how each feels different. I guess this is also why I hang them on my wall ( in a controlled environment). I baby them, look after them but not to the point of being scared to play them. I just love guitars.

What is your story, do you need a few, many or just that one? Maybe you like the challenge of restoring or upgrading parts on bangers or less expensive instruments? Perhaps you are a collector? Maybe you only buy one style of instrument?

Any make, any model, any price, show or tell what you have!

Here is my family. I'm like you in fact that I like just looking at them. All of mine are out either on stands or hanging on walls. Kind of like art for my room. I play all of them though. I mostly play with a praise team at church and have played almost all of them at some point there. I just played the SG at Easter service this morning. Even though I play them all, the Les Paul is the one I have bonded with. It sits on a stand next to my computer and is my go to guitar. Hope to see pics of alot of collections here!

I have three Gibson LP's 1 Tanglewood Acoustic and my first ever electric washburn. I can barely play so there kind of wasted on me..

I think that's the million dollar statement right there.....I have all my life wanted an SG with the meastro unit ....5k for an original 60's was out of the question and a new vos is not in the cards...last year I came across a robby krieger SG for a decent price in the states so I bought it and had it shipped up here....looked real purdy but I just hated it..couldn't get into the feel of it..I tried for about a year to get jiggy with it but just didn't happen..so I sold it.

Same for me, it has too feel good to play to stay in my collection.

I am a purist, I believe. I do a lot of research when I think I am about to purchase a guitar to make sure it is what I am looking for, try it out at a local store if available & then take the plunge if it fits what I felt it would do for me. I love Ricks but only have a 4001 bass & a 620 electric. I purchased an American Strat a few years ago & recently bought a Les Paul Classic Custom. ...All used. I waited until I found exactly what I hoped for at the price I was willing to pay, in the condition I could be pleased with...after all the research was done. The Les Paul Classic Custom was something I sought after for years....my most expensive purchase. Now I am pleased with my collection. I have (in my opinion) the best bass, the best guitars Rick, Fender & Gibson have to offer.

As far as acoustics, I have an "El Degas" dreadnaught that my parents bought me back in '74 for $250 in a local music store. It is a Martin copy but solid spruce top, solid mahogany sides & back with a rosewood neck. It plays like butter & has been my first guitar since I was a kid. The frets have been redone twice, the fretboard had to be sanded down due to gouging on the first 2 fret areas through years of use & the bridge had to be flattened back down as it was beginning to bow. Yet, I would not trade it for anything! It has been sort of a companion with me through life. Sounds philosophical I know, but I really learned on it, wrote songs on it, played it for decades... I also made my first EBay purchase on an Ovation CS257 that I first played through an amp at Guitar Center. I was blown away at the sound through an amp that guitar made.

So to close the long story (sorry), I do a lot of studying for what I am considering & then after the purchase I am loyal to those guitars & am satisfied with what I have acquired. I never plan to sell or trade any of these guitars as I feel I ended up with what I wanted, even if it took a long time to finally own.

I have guitars that I like to play - generally somewhere between 10 and 15 at any given moment - but I wouldn't call it a collection. Why? Because they are players. They don't have any great value to collectors and they won't appreciate drastically in value over time. To be collectable guitars (a bit of an oxymoron in my opinion) they would need to go in a storage box and appreciate in value over time.

At this moment I believe I have 4 Fender electrics, Three Gibson electrics, 1 bass, and 4 acoustics.

I have pics of some of them... But it looks like I'm overdue for an acoustic group shot.

Here is my current family . I play at least one every day, and each one is "my favorite" when I play it. I have had several that I didn't bond with, they found new homes. I like to have them all out where I can see the, they are equal part musical instrument and art.

Here is what I intend on keeping, two Epiphones and a Gibson. Interestingly, all three came equipped with Gibson pickups. The two Epiphones are close to identical to their Gibson counterparts. The 1967 Rivoli was identical to the Gibson EB2 with the exception go the headstock and logos. They both were hollow bodies with the EB0 pickup.

These are the ones I need to part with because my G.A.S. got the best of me since the first of the year.

All my guitars are played and gigged at one time or another. I guess you could say the Les Paul is my Number 1.

Reading Paul Stanley's (KISS) new autobio (Face The Music) and he mentions his guitar collection that included a sunburst lp with cream pu's he bought for 2200 and later a 58' flying V for like 3600. (and that was expensive). he kept them all in a lit case in his New York apt. All told when he sold the collection for 50 grand, it was later estimated to have worth of about 2.5 mill. wheeewwww. hold on to those guits!
