Trading Guitars Question

I recently purchased a beautiful and virtually brand new Gibson Super Dove from a Guitar Center Store in Florida. It is a really nice axe but I am interested in seeing if there is any way that I can make a trade for a similarly conditioned Gibson Hummingbird with the Baggs pick up system in it. Now the reason I want to swap out is mostly because I actually prefer the Baggs pick up system to that of the Fishman which the Super Dove has in it. My sj200 has the Baggs in it and I really like the simplicity that it provides other than all of the technical and more advanced Fishman. I'm still kind of an analog being stuck in the digital age. Does anybody know where or who would be able to swing such deals?

In most cases, your best bet on buying any guitar is to have cash-in-hand. Although you do hear about swaps where both parties got exactly what they wanted, these are few and far between. Even an in-store trade-in is not the best economical path, unless you just want to "dump" your present guitar.

Sell your guitar on Craig's List or e-bay, at "fair market value", to generate cash for the purchase of the next one.

Unless you're past the return period, the best thing would be to return the Dove to GC, get your cash back and then buy what you're looking for.

Just remember eBay fees (and PayPal) can top 13%. I'd be sure to list here in the For Sale area, at the various guitar websites, and Craigslist before going the eBay route.

I believe Guitar Center only gives you 72 hours to return a used instrument....

Just curious why would you trade an acoustic guitar because of the electronics? An acoustic is judged by how it feels and sounds played au natural. The pickups and what have you are more like icing on the cake and can all be added later. So why not just keep the guitar and swap out the electronics?

This might be one reason.

Pretty sure GC has a 30 day return policy. For a little more $, you can bump that up to 60 days with their Pro coverage. Includes used/vintage.

always an additional cost for something... anyplace you trade your guitar at.. you will take a hit... even the place you got it from..

They're actually ok with it. 100% money back. Done it. Just don't do it every month.

Have the pickup changed but save the original to reinstall when the guitar is sold in the future. The cost of changing the pickup is probably less than the cost of a trade.

30 days on new and used, the 72 hours applies to "vintage"
