jimmi accardi Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I think it's time to put better tuning pegs on my Casino. Mine was made at the Qingdao Plant (Epiphone), China December 2010. Does anyone know what pegs would be good replacements (without having to drill new holes into the headstock)?
jimmi accardi Posted April 22, 2014 Author Posted April 22, 2014 Or even if the holes have to be enlarged - I'll probably take it to my luthier anyway. I'm just interested in what brand (Grover, etc) you guys think is best. Also, that are pretty much the same space between pegs for tuning ease. Also, not sure about tuning ratios??? Are the higher ratios (like 18:1) more stable (not sure how that works). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Parabar Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Higher ratios are more stable --- a ratio of 18:1 means you have to turn the knob 18 times to get one full rotation of the shaft. There are excellent tuning machines made by Grover, Schaller, Gotoh, Kluson and others. For the Casino, you might want to avoid heavier tuners as they could cause "neck dive."
Scott0 Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I replaced the tuners on both my casinos with gotoh sd r90 locking tuners, they're fantastic and are direct replacement parts fitting the original footprint and screw holes perfectly. If your old screw holes are fubar, stick a toothpick in each one and break it off, then screw the new tuner screw in. easy breezy.
Scott0 Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 On my ebony casino, I went with the black comet finish, I think it turned out looking good!
