jblue212 Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Just got it today - bought used but it's in great condition. I'm really an acoustic gal but I play with friends in the beginnings of a band and the sound is totally electric. Never played electric before (I've been playing less than a year) but I knew I had to go all out and get something I'd love. It looks naked without the pick guard but it's not been drilled for one and damn if I'm putting a drill to this thing myself. Must get someone to do it.
BigKahune Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 . Really sharp pics. The burst is beautiful. And the interplay between the graining and flame is absolutely gorgeous. Love it. I wouldn't put a pickguard on it, but that's me. Congrats on fantastic LP. . B) .
Rabs Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Lovely guitar.. I have a 2008 Standard myself.... (is it a 2008 standard model, or a Standard made in 2008? (it does get confusing) The 2008 Standards have locking hardware and the nice 60s asymmetrical neck.. Personally when the tops are that nice id rather leave the pickguard off :) Happy playing mammm... This is my one :)

It has the Grover locking tuners so it is the 2008 model. The model number has a + in it though - does that mean it came in a Plus top?

Yeah that's a 2008 Standard then Some people didn't like them as its a fully chambered model.. but to me its a nice sounding guitar (quite resonant) with the Burstbucker pros and a really nice weight.. Certainly not too light. Hmm, a + actually in the serial number... Yeah id guess that means plus top (I don't have a +)... Mine was actually made in 2011.. lol its funny.. a 2008 2011 Standard.
BR TOAD Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Might I suggest that if you truly wish to add a pick guard find a Vintage Guitar shop near your location and see who they recomend as a well trained a craftsman and luthier I would only trust my guitar with an experienced craftsman to add your pick-guard you can get Factory made kits for him to install.. make sure to see his work first before you have anything done.. I travel over 2 hours to my TECH to have my guitars restrung andd setup not to mention other work I have him do.. IF you you wish I have emailed you off forum ad would be happy to try and help you find someone in your area.. *)O(*b

I actually know a great luthier in my city - he set up my L200 last year and I can call and see if he'll do the pick guard.
Yaff Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Very nice. congratulations For me, pick guards look right on plain tops and solid colour LP`s, but with highly figured tops like yours, they look better without. But its your LP, so you should do what feels right to you. Enjoy !
dbrian66 Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I would think twice before I put a pickgaurd on that. That top is stunning and you would cover a lot of it with the pickgaurd. Congrats on a beautiful guitar either way you go!
pippy Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 WOW! Nice!!! To my eyes the combination of that top and that 'burst pattern and colour makes it look very much like a 'real' 1960 Standard. Many congrats on a very fine looking instrument. FWIW (not much - as I seem to be the only one this way inclined) I'd definitely put a p'g on it............ P.
Eracer_Team Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Nice. I'm not with Pippy on this one.. stay naked...
jblue212 Posted April 25, 2014 Author Posted April 25, 2014 Nice. I'm not with Pippy on this one.. stay naked... no pick guard I'm really tossed. Considering maybe one of those screwless pick guards so I don't have to drill into it.
JM2112 Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Congratulations!!! Nice score! Just an awesome looking LP Standard! With a top that nice I would consider leaving the pick guard off and just play it carefully. HNGD!!!
jblue212 Posted May 3, 2014 Author Posted May 3, 2014 Thanks, all. Took the guitar out tonight for band practice - I'm really pleased with it. 2 hours of standing and playing and it didn't feel too heavy at all. Sounded great and was comfortable to play. And I still haven't put the pick guard on it. I think I should probably restring it though. What strings do people recommend?
