alexthegreat404 Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I have longed for a Gibson Les Paul ever since I started playing in 2005. I've had my Strat since 07 and love it, but was finally able to trage my Standard Tele for this awesome Paul. It is a 2004 Les Paul Special. I'll still get my "dream" Les Paul years from now, but I couldn't be happier with this at the moment! Sounds, looks, and plays like a dream!
deeman Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Congrats on your new guitar, perhaps tomorrow can be a NCD... new camera day. Lets see a better pic!
alexthegreat404 Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 Congrats on your new guitar, perhaps tomorrow can be a NCD... new camera day. Lets see a better pic! My phone camera is quite terrible! Thanks, though! Does anyone have much info on these? It seems the 2004 line was the faded finish, but this was re painted. I am just curious as info is scarce
BigKahune Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 . Not positive (it's hard to tell from your pic), but I think that might be a Gibson Les Paul Special Faded. An all mahogany, flat top (no maple cap) LP that came with a thin finish, a slim tapper 60s' neck, and no pickguard. From your comments, sounds like it's been repainted and a pickguard added. You can email service@gibson.com with the serial and ask them what they have recorded for that serial number to confirm. Congrats on your first LP. Enjoy. . B) .
rwfelton Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 i am new to this forum and have a question.... i recently ordered and received a 2014 les paul studio from zzounds. it is my 3rd gibson and second les paul. with my other gibsons the pickguard and other parts had clear plastic over them.... the studio had no plastic except for some torn clear plastic under the pickup ring... the coil tap/volume knobs were also seated wrong and were a little loose. i was wondering if maybe i got sold a returned guitar at full price. i contacted the company that i bought it from but they aren't responding. this is also the first time that i have ever bought a guitar sight unseen. i love the instrument but i don't want to get duped by the seller. is it even possible that they accidentally shipped me a used/returned gibson?

Not sure but I have three Les Pauls and none of them came with plastic over the pickguard or anything else. My SG's all had plastic on the guards.
rwfelton Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Not sure but I have three Les Pauls and none of them came with plastic over the pickguard or anything else. My SG's all had plastic on the guards. a friend who got a les paul from the same place said his had the plastic. the situation with the volume/coil tap knobs being jiggly and then not even seated correctly is what grabbed my attention first. my 61 reissue sg is 27 years old and the knobs don't wobble or jiggle on it one bit.

Are you saying that he bought a Les Paul that had plastic on the face of the guitar, on the carved top and under the pick up rings? I have never seen that on a Les Paul or any other Gibson guitar. I have seen wobbly knobs and loose bolts on new guitars though.

rwfelton Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 but as to why i would have plastic stuck under my pickup rings (between them and the body) is kind of strange. and even a piece that is stuck between the pickup ring and the pickup... possibly the same piece of plastic. haven't loosened the ring to pull it out yet. waiting to hear back from zzounds. i changed the photo. the first one was waaaaaaaay too big. sorry. still getting used to the forum thing.
cjsinla Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 no, over the pickguard and some small pieces covering the pickups. I've seen pictures of plastic on pick ups. But again, I have never seen or received a Les Paul with plastic on the pick guard, only SG's.
1963DaveG Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 HNGD! Congrats on your Lester! Ya just can't beat'em!
Drog Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 I have never seen plastic on a pick guard or under the pickup, ever on a LP. I wonder if something had been replaced? It could have been new, but had a bad pickup and changed out? How does the wiring look on the inside?

It could have been new, but had a bad pickup and changed out? How does the wiring look on the inside? it's a 2014 so all the wiring is plug and play. it has the 5 pin plug like on a pc fan.... and what really throws me off is the looseness/shakiness of the coil tap/volume knobs..... its like the post in the knob has a very very small bit of space in there that allows it to shake around. i was wondering if maybe someone had pulled too hard on them at one point. my 30 year old sg has the original knobs and they don't shake at all. i don't mind it being a preowned if that is what it is but i wish that zzounds would at least contact me back and tell yes or no. it has been almost a week and a half and i still haven't gotten a reply from them. and if it is a preowned then just give me my $300 difference in store credit.... i attached two photos of LPs with plastic over the pickguards. but do you know if all coil taps are shaky?
american cheez Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 ... i just bought a 2014 studio pro. my knobs are tight, and properly seated. there was no plastic film on the pickguard or the pups. the tapping pots operate normally. sounds like the outfit you bought yours from took it straight from the box to the wall hook. every guitar should be looked over by the tech before it goes out the door. unless it's one of those online places. i would think twice before buying from them in the future if they're not going to bother properly setting up the guitar before handing it over
