EpiNova95 Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 The ocean blue Traditional has really caught my eye (along with the wine red and tobacco burst). I'm confused about the specs though... - Is the body completely solid i.e. no swiss cheese holes? The literature makes it sound like these are no longer weight relieved at all. - Long or short neck tenon? - Fret nibs? The 2014 pics I've seen online seem to still have nibs.
tulee12! Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Nibs: Yes Short tennon No weight relief... solid body. You can find them around 8.5 pounds though. Mi e is 8 lbs 6 oz. Awesome guitar!!!
cjsinla Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I got one of the Ocean Blue ones, mine's about 8 lbs 12 oz. The 2014's are really nice. I've since put top hat knobs on it and changed the strap buttons as I almost dropped it a few times and needed to add strap locks.
1963DaveG Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 If you ask me, my opinion, the 2013 & 2014 Traditional's are the best USA Gibsons made today and although some might argue they would put many custom shop Lester's to shame! Best Les Paul I personally have had in my hands. My 2014 comes in at 9.5lbs. and I love everything about it.
Drog Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Don't forget the '59 pups in the 2014 model. That to me is what really makes this year's trad the best. But you will also have to like the larger style neck.
Pesh Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 I picked up a gorgeous Honeyburst of the 2014 Traditional line last week. It certainly is a heavy beast, but it's a good weight. It was at a Gibson showcase at my local store, and the fella hosting (a Gibson product specialist) said that this years' Traditional line is meant to be more in line with 50's and 60's LP's, in terms of body weight (no relief) and necks. The neck is a fat one; I was apprehensive about 50's fatnecks before but it wasn't as bad as I expected. I'm looking at an R8 at some point soon, so this was a nice reassurance.

I believe the 13 and 14 Trads are the only Gibson USA LP's with maple tops that are solid. You will love those 59's if you like a vintage sounding LP.
capmaster Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Right. I believe the 13 and 14 Trads are the only Gibson USA LP's with maple tops that are solid. ... There have been no massive ones from circa 1983 to 2012. One had to buy Custom Shop but there was none from 1983 to 1993, or Epiphone when wanting massive LP bodies. Of course, the Epi mahogany bodies were and still are multipieced, consisting of five blanks typically.
