Who is your favorite guitar player?

Recommended Posts

John Lennon. Certainly not the most technical of players, but he got such a raw and raunchy tone out of his Casino, that it gets me every time.

Here on "The End" after Ringo`s drum solo, McCartney, Harrison & Lennon take it in turns to solo with Lennon third each time.

Steve.

Oh yeah!!

Donald Roeser is in my top 5 favorite guitar players for sure.

I saw BOC in about 1983 and they put on a terrific show.

Buck was awesome! [thumbup]

Oh yeah!

The thing about his solos is they SOUND so simple and easy. But then you try to play them. Esp stuff from their first three albums.

Of all time would definitely be Chris Whitley and if you need a track, it would be 'Phone Call from Leavenworth'.

Currently recording would be Gary Clark Jr.

Me. I ain't dead yet, and I kinda like being here and me.

Am I the best player in my favorite kind of music?

Nope. But I'm the best player in my favorite kind of music that's inside my skin.

m

Couldn't have said it better myself about myself. [biggrin][thumbup]

When it's about players who influenced me most, Gary Richrath is the first one coming to my mind.

Cap...

All kidding aside, I like to do so many different kinds of music that even if I had real talent instead of just some skill, I would still never be able to master all the stuff I'd like to play at least "well."

I'll never be a Chet Atkins, Joe Pass or Segovia. But I can do stuff similar to what they have done, at a level appropriate to my own skills.

Egads - what a task. Not even sure what "favourite" means, but these are the guitarists that I love listening to and that influence my playing: John Lee Hooker, Joe Pass, Emily Remler, Jimi Hendrix, Richard Thompson, Jimmy Page, Paul Foad, Lightnin' Hopkins.... The list goes on. But that's a pretty good mix.

I think Gary Moore was not listed here yet, so let me do it. But I also like Mark Knopfler, Brian May, Neal Schon. I'm impressed with technical skills of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen and Michael Angelo Batio, but it's not quite the kind of music I like to play.

Yngwie Malmsteen - man I forgot all about this guy.

As others have pointed out here before me, there are far too many great guitarist to choose a "best". Rather, I'll list my "Top Ten" list of those who have inspired me to play the guitar:

Chuck Berry

Jimi Hendrix

John Lee Hooker

B. B. King

Albert King

Freddie King

Keith Richards

Mick Taylor

Eric Clapton

Jimmy Page

...in no particular order.
