Hey guys I just wanted to get some info and opinions. After getting a 1996 J-100 Xtra I am now contemplating of getting a used SJ-200 Standard it was built in 2012 but I'm confused about the specs of this guitar. In the Musician's Friend website it list on the specs that the standard is made with AAA grade Solid Sitka Spruce top and AAA grade eastern curly maple but on the Gibson website it doesn't say that. Did they downgraded the specs of the SJ-200 standard? if so, when did they started doing that? Lastly are the back and sides of the SJ-200 made of solid maple or laminate? My J-100 Xtra has solid honduras mahogany back and sides and I was thinking for the price of the SJ-200 Standard it should have solid back and sides as well. Help me out guys! thanks! :)

Do you really think modern J-200s would be made with laminate back and sides?

Well it would've surely help if the Gibson Acoustic website just laid out the specs clearly just like most guitar makers do nowadays. No second guessing before dropping $4000 on it.

Nice!

Quite a pair you've got there - great looking Xtra and a beautiful J-200.

Congrats.

Next on the list - Gibson slope. . B)

Thanks! yeah I love them both! different voices with the J100 Xtra having a mahogany back and sides and the J-200 having maple back and sides of course, both have that big sound. I also got an email from Jon Sutherland of Gibson Customer Service confirming the specs! :) I have my eye on the J-15 next!

My J200 has been nothing but awesome, It was well worth the money but I decided to change the standard trussrod for a more classic look. It definitely looks better than the standard edition IMHO.:)
