Joe M Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 I picked up a 2007 Gibson SJ200 yesterday and I've got a couple of questions. Absolutely dead mint condition, no fret wear, no marks anywhere, even the pickguard looks brand new. The little that the guitar must have been played in the last 7 years had to have been without a pick. Great flame on the back and sides, but indescribable on the back of the neck, the most flame I have ever seen. Rumbles like no other guitar I have ever played. Anyway, the questions I have are.....the orange sticker just says SJ-200, no custom or TV, etc. Tulip tuners, gold hardware, other normal things for the guitar. But, it has the brown Cali Girl case with the pink lining that I've only seen with TV guitars. Also, I thought the orange sticker only came with CS or some other special run guitars. Do the sticker and case sound right for that year model? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Oh, it's a keeper regardless, just curious about those couple of things.
littlejohnny Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 The tv /mc distinction was introduced in 2007, so if you have an early 2007 git, it might be a guitar from when they still just made j-200. All gibsons had orange sticker before the tv introduction. If you have a later 2007 model, it might be a tv. what about the top wood? the regular j-200 before the tv had a sitka spruce, whereas the Tv's have red spruce. I'm no j-200 expert, so there may be more differences.
J-1854Me Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 I had a J-185TV that was built in 2007 and it came with the California Girl case too, but did not say "TV" on the label. It had all the attributes of a TV J-185. I called the factory and they confirmed that the guitar was in fact a TV version. Give them a buzz (1-800-426-2636) and ask 'em. And congrats on the guitar; it sounds like you picked up a winner! Fred
