saturn Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 It seems like only yesterday we were all on the Les Paul Forum wringing our hands over the "new" features of the 2008 Standard. Just reminiscing....
hoross Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Gibson Les Paul standard 2008 is the best Gibson guitar i ever played together with the les paul classic antique really love these guitars they rock.
Rabs Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Yup... I love mine... Love the asymmetrical neck and the locking hardware and the Burstbucker pros... Wont ever let this one go... And even though its chambered it feels solid and has a nice weight to it. It was one of those guitars where it wasn't even a decision, I just knew I had to have it as soon as I saw it in the shop :) This is my one, was made in 2011 (must have been one of the last batches) :) (I swapped the plastics to black and got a blank TR cover)

jblue212 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I just got one a few weeks ago. I agonized over which model to get, and I really am happy with my decision.

The black plastics make the appearance of top and finish even more impressive.
Rabs Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Man, that is dearly a great looking one! The black plastics make the appearance of top and finish even more impressive. Thank you sir :) Yes, for some reason I was compelled to change the plastics.. its the first and only time I have ever done that to one of my Gibbies, I usually like to keep them stock.. But as you say I wanted to highlight that top as much as possible and I like the fact its quite dark... I thought the white distracted from it a bit
capmaster Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Agree completely. The comparison clearly proves that. I am considering the same step for my modern weight relieved 2011 Quilt Top LP Standard since the Regal Purple finish is rather dark, too.

Id like to see a picture of that (cant remember if ive seen it before)

Rabs Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Sorry, no hi-res pic, just own a cheap web cam, but I hope this will do for a first look: WOW... that is totally beautiful LOVE the natural sides, im assuming the back is the same? What about the neck? And yes I can see how that would look pretty cool with the black plastics... REALLY nice guitar man

And yes I can see how that would look pretty cool with the black plastics... REALLY nice guitar man Thank you, Rabs. Back and neck are natural, too, which I really like. The top seems to be a stained one with a clear coat, like they do it at PRS. It also was a good deal, perhaps because it sat about one and a half year at a renowned dealer. I can't suppose why, it plays and sounds great, I loved the looks and the coil split options, too, so I had to have it finally. It has a "real" coil split, no capacitor tuned one, and no PCB. Since none of the stock Burstbuckers 1 & 2 combo is reverse wound/reverse polarity like the BB Pros, both pickups in parallel do hum, but that's not a problem for me. I switched to the TP-6 which I like, and to Speed Knobs for ease of pull operations. However, I still consider a four push/pull pots rewiring with separate series/parallel options, and either common coil split option with swapped coils and phase reverse in the image of the Frank Zappa "Roxy" SG, or separate coil split option.
