I think I just threw up in my mouth a bit when I saw this [blink]

A beautiful 59 RUINED with a stupid heart shape in the middle... I mean who the bloody hell came up with that idea, and worse who the bloody hell approved it?? On a DAMN 59 CUSTOM!!!!!?????? DAMN!!! Maybe they made it with Beth Hart in mind [flapper]

Gibson Custom is proud to stand up as the first guitar maker to pay tribute to an influential genre of music, while supporting an extremely worthy cause at the same time. The new Southern Rock Tribute 1959 Les Paul entirely captures the look, feel, and tone of the guitar that has been at the center of Southern Rock since its origination in the late 1960s, while proceeds from the sales of this extremely Limited Edition will go to benefit members of the music community in need through Music Health Alliance and The Gibson Foundation.

Capturing all the essentials of the legendary burst, and crafted with the utmost skill by the luthiers of Gibson Custom to a feature set derived through vintage experts and members of the Southern Rock community, the Southern Rock Tribute 1959 Les Paul stands out with its unique “Reverseburst” finish over a beautifully figured maple top, which results in a subtle heart-like pattern toward the center of the guitar. To further commemorate the occasion, the switch cavity in the guitar’s back will be adorned by a metal “Southern Rock Tribute” cover (spare traditional plastic cover included in the case).

In every other way, the Southern Rock Tribute 1959 Les Paul stands out as a classic vintage burst. From its rounded ’59 neck profile, to its killer PAF-style Custom Bucker pickups, to its traditional plastics and hardware set, this is every ounce a stunning Les Paul, and one you’ll be proud to display, whether as part of a growing collection or out on the big stage. The first 50 guitars will be hand-aged by the skilled craftspeople of Gibson Custom and signed by our Southern Rock Ambassadors—Dickey Betts, Charlie Daniels, Gary Rossington, Jimmy Hall, and vintage guitar expert Ronny Proler—while the remainder of the run will be non-aged/signed. All include a Gibson Custom hardshell case and trifold Certificate of Authenticity.

Wow... A 59 Les Paul , but this time in a tasteful burst...

Yawn...

I would hate to see what you think a distasteful burst is then :P

Come on now. You can't honestly tell me you think this thing looks any different than every other 59 burst reissue do you?

Well apart from the stupid heart shape no.....

I don't understand why they are so obsessed with the 59s? At least change it up to a 1960 RI lol #-o

Because we all know that the origins of Southern Rock were guys that could buy 5000 dollar guitars this is a fitting tribute.

What, how is that a reverse burst? It isn't, it's a right way round burst. Even more nonsensical is saying this "results" in a heart shape, no it doesn't, and even if it was a reverse burst it wouldn't. The reason there is a heart in the middle is because someone painted it there. Simple.

Looks to me like the guy/gal who wrote the marketing copy was as dumfounded as I m by this fugly design. Now I like reissues and I hope gibson continue to reissue 59s in tasteful bursts for ever but I don't get this at all.

Thanks, Rabs, for saying it all for me - albeit, originally, in the opposite order...

LOVE the subtle sarchasm!!

yeah, i'd hit it....if I wouldn't have to sell a freakin' kidney to afford it !!

I thought they all were tasteful. Can't they make a tasteless one. If that heart is supposed to be the Heart of Dixie, that is really lame.

HAH !!! my States Auto tags still have a "heart" on them.....only us old codgers remember when they actually printed "The Heart Of Dixie" on our tags.

So...

This is the; "Sweet Home Alabama" burst...

Whatevah...

To each his own...

If ya like it, so be it...

it doesn't really work for me... I just don't get any "Southern Tribute" feel from it...

The burst.. I can`t recall, whether I used disgusting words here at the Forums. Insert Your favorite here: ...................

I like the other one.

Betts and the rest of them prolly squinted through the super thick glasses and said "ok" and went and had a beer wondering what that splotch was in the middle.

Fun Fact:

BHLT: Betts, Hall, Levell, Trucks. Heard them guys back then, they said they was tapes and such and that there would be a record at some point. All these 30 odd years later, Betts says yes there are some tapes, no there won't be a record. Oh well.

I just don't get it..........

I mean stuff like this must sell or they wouldn't keep doing it, but who?

While I'm not really into the typical bursts, I have seen a few I like and I "get" what people like about them, but the heart thing?........sorry, but that is really stupid.

Even if they were set on doing the heart, I'd rather see it oriented "upright" maybe up by where your forearm rests or something instead of lost in the hardware.

I just feel a bit frustrated as a consumer that there are several "normal" options, colors, etc that can't be had, yet these odd ones are presented as the best thing since sliced bread.

Looks like the guitar got a tattoo msp_thumbdn.gif. Love the wood, not the heart "tat". I'll pass (Like I could even afford it any way!!) msp_rolleyes.gif

I have never been a fan of flame tops. I much prefer plain tops.

Me too. A light flame is okay for me, but I'd take take Flight959's plain top over any top I've ever seen.

Quilt tops are not even considered for me.

I would never buy a guitar with a flame top, strangely I do enjoy looking at bursts with flame, quilt tops I can't even look at.

The Rustoleum model. Maybe they had a bunch of old cans of red paint that they needed to use up.

Of course, these weird models wouldn't seem so stupid if Les Pauls weren't the untouchable icons that they are. They could slake them in nuclear waste and stick them with voodoo pins and they'd still be ready to plug in and rock out!! [thumbup]
