E-minor7 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Not the deepest conversation, but still. . . McCartney might be the grand og the grands, but he isn't the biggest gear-nerd. Doesn't matter - he's always good for a groovy chat and here he's down our alley. May he get well soon. . . . http://www.musicrada...ar-2004-515780/
tvguit Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Great article, thanks for sharing. I thought this line was interesting: "He's playing an Epiphone acoustic. He's a Beatle – couldn't he afford a Gibson J-200, or a Martin?" The Texan was a few dollars more than the J-45 in 1964. They also sound fantastic for both strumming and fingerpicking. Maybe that author should try playing a real 1964 Texan before he makes that judgement!

E-minor7 Posted May 26, 2014 Author Posted May 26, 2014 Great article, thanks for sharing. ✓ May he get well soon ? Is he sick ? Unfortunately yes, , , just hope it's nothin' serious. . . Apart from that - what stroke me in the interview was that he apparently still has the 1967/68 rio-rose Martin. Here there or somewhere in a flat. As many of you probably know Lennon-McCartney got one each before hitting India and the acoustic Double Album classics are played on those. . . Lennon gave his to Ronnie Hawkins in the early 70's as I recall it.
retrorod Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 I could not read through the article....While Paul is 'talented' ...no doubt. He is not my favorite Beatle and I have no Sir Paul records in my archives. Blasphemy, I know....But he don,t "move me" these days. Now carry on with the flames and Sir Paul 'suck-up' comments...
Smurfbird Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Well, certainly Lennon was the soul baring member of the band and I'd rather listen to bland, '70s Lennon stuff (Mind Games LP) over nearly anything by McCartney the technician (though Wings Over America is a joy), but I gotta respect just how naturally musical Sir Paul is. I've seen footage where he makes music so effortlessly it's evidence that some are divinely touched with a gift. (I am clearly not.) I love the fact that he doesn't sweat his equipment and gets a great sound from anything he picks up. I especially love the idea he played that Hofner bass because it was cheap. But I've got shots of him playing a Rickenbacker bass, no cheap brand, in the later '60s before I've seen him with a Fender bass in hand.

bobouz Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Recently, I was fortunate enough to pick up a Terada (Japan) McCartney '64 Texan. Made in 2005, this guitar was part of the McCartney fundraising run referred to in the article. I have to say, Terada's build quality on this instrument is simply stellar, and mirrors the attention to detail seen on my Terada semi & hollowbody electrics. The guitar looks, feels, and sounds like a '60s Gibson, right down to that wonderfully fat fret wire and adjustable saddle. I honestly am amazed at how well they nailed it. If opportunity knocks, don't pass up a chance to play one of these.
Pepperland Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 This was on AGF the other day - how to play Blackbird the right way: BluesKing777. I used to play Blackbird the "right way" but my index finger nail gets shredded from using Paul's technique. He even admitted in an interview that he had to resort to an acrylic nail because the same thing happens to him.

No bashing from me as I have never been a big fan of the Beatles solo records. Just never heard one I thought was as good as Keef's Talk is Cheap. While I thought the occasional song was good like George's Beware of Darkness the only solo record I bought and really liked was the Plastic Ono Band's Live Peace in Toronto although I only ever listened to Side 1(has anybody ever been able to get through the second side).
E-minor7 Posted May 29, 2014 Author Posted May 29, 2014 If anyone wonder what happened to the seldom talked about square cherry J-160E (and I'm sure you all do) it was still around 25 years after being seen for the first time -
