Rabs
Ohh.. I really like the 339 (not that I can afford anything).. I think where the got the last studios wrong they have corrected it with these ones... 335 Studio $1399 Looking for major semi-acoustic electric guitar tone, looks and playing feel at a minor price? The ES-335 Studio delivers like nothing else on the planet, and all with the 100% American-made quality of Gibson Memphis. Legendary ES-335 lines, genuine Gibson humbucking pickups, first-class hardware, and the popular no-nonsense Studio Series ethos make this guitar an unbeatable value, but a full-bore performer by any standards. In short, it’s the easiest way to get your foot into the ES-335 door, without compromising an ounce of your precious tone. The ES-335 Studio is crafted to the classic formula of the Gibson ES-335, a near overnight success upon its introduction in 1958. Identical to the original specs are its body made from laminated maple with an arched top, two f-holes, and a solid maple core for enhanced clarity and sustain. Its stripped-down Studio ethos is revealed in a lack of binding and pickguard, streamlined controls, and simplified gold headstock logo. A major savings in price comes without compromise of quality, though, as evident in its Grover™ Rotomatic® tuners, TonePros™ AVR2 bridge and long-anchor tailpiece studs, CTS™ pots with Orange Drop tone caps, and Gibson’s 57 Classic (neck) and hotter Super 57 (bridge) humbucking pickups. Get it in your choice of Ebony or Vintage Sunburst finish, in hand-sprayed nitrocellulose lacquer, naturally. http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/ES/Gibson-Memphis/2014/ES-335-Studio.aspx 339 Studio $1399 Gibson’s ES-339 found an immediate place in the hearts and hands of guitarists who worshiped the classic ES-335 look, feel and tone, but needed that time-tested versatility in a more compact package. The ES-339 Studio from Gibson Memphis nails all the benefits of its predecessors but with the popular Studio styling, for a no-compromises tone machine offering 100% American-made quality at an unbeatable price. The elegant lines of the original ES-335 are cleverly drawn down to render a familiar yet more compact playing experience in the ES-339 Studio. Its stripped-down Studio format offers a lack of pickguard and binding with “soft edged” body contour, streamlined controls, and simplified gold headstock logo. A major savings in price and weight comes without losing one ounce of quality, though, as evident in its Grover™ Rotomatic® tuners, TonePros™ AVR2 bridge and long-anchor tailpiece studs, CTS™ pots with Orange Drop tone caps, and Gibson’s ’57 Classic (neck) and hotter Super ’57 (bridge) humbucking pickups. Get it in your choice of Ebony or Vintage Sunburst finish, in hand-sprayed nitrocellulose lacquer, naturally. http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/ES/Gibson-Memphis/2014/ES-339-Studio.aspx
'Scales
Amazing how much less expensive the studio's are compared with their more elaborate siblings, especially when it "...offers a lack of pickguard.. " I'd be keen to see a 390 studio! (actually I'm keen to see the Epiphone Casino Coupe version when it comes out too).
btoth76
Thank You, Rabs! You are a real friend... Now I'll be nervous for the next 4-5 days. ;) Seriously. This time, that's a great idea from Gibson. I will seriously consider the 335 'burst version. I wonder what will be EU selling price... Cheers... Bence

surfpup
I can't handle them without a binding. Just looks weird to me. I'm sure they sound great though - and at a great price.

For me the 335 looks pretty weird without binding... The fat mickey mouse horns just looks even weirder.. But I think the 339 looks darn sweet.. But then I also like LP studio models too.. quapman
I don't know,, I'm kinda diggin it without the binding. But I get what you guys are talking about. That's exactly how I feel about the LP studios. To me a LP just doesn't look right without a binding. But for some strange reason that isn't happening on this one for me I think they look great. And I would have a damn hard time picking between those colors. That black one is da bomb. Rabs,, I said it before and I'll say it again. You Bahstahd!! capmaster
Looks fine to my eyes. I think I wouldn't care for the missing binding, neither around the body nor along the fingerboard. The look will always depend on background and environment, so compared to me, it MUST look nice. Guess in the end the beauty will be in the EAR of the beholder, still more critical when it hangs around my neck...
zigzag
Man, those Studio 335s and 339s look great. Apparently both are stocked with '57 Classic and Super '57 pups.
quapman
Will I get a good thrashing :D I loved Fawlty Towers as much as I loved any Python episode/movie. Cleese is without question one of the greats. Yeah I cant wait to go... im going with two friends who are Python obsessed so it should be a great night... I think even though they are all old, its not like when you see old musicians who arnt as fast as they used to be or singers who cant hit that note any more.. I bet they will still be as funny as ever :)

I agree surfpup, I can't handle it without binding and pick guard. But like someone said I bet it sound good.
badbluesplayer
I like them. They have a more modern look to them than the regular ES's. Plus, they have a good price point. I can see these models becoming popular. I like the idea, business-wise, of a semi with more modern looks, so they don't lose out on "the younger crowd" with the ES's. If you know what I mean. I like the regular ES's myself, but they are more old-fashioned looking than most guitars.
rocketman
Yeah I agree. It just shows you how much those little "extras" cost. I think these will sell well. Great price with the same sound as the more pricey ones. This is a great move on Gibson's part.

darling67
I think those binding-less, Micky Mouse-eared ES's are pretty cool. TBH, I have been intrigued by these "Casino Coupe" models. I've already got my full-size Casino Elitist. But these smaller-bodied models could be a viable option.

surfpup
So two volume knobs but no tone knobs? Guess they are assuming we don't use them?
zigzag
So two volume knobs but no tone knobs? Guess they are assuming we don't use them? A pickup selector switch with one volume control, one tone control operates both pickups.
