Ryan H Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Just thought I'd share this little deed I did for my friend Wolfe Macleod. Yes, that's the Wolfe in Wolfetone Pickups. About a week ago, Wolfe and I were chatting about random guitar geek stuff, and somewhere in the conversation the prospect of selling Wolfetone merchandise (shirts, hats, what have you) came up. There was only one issue; his logo, which was made years ago, was far from "high-res". 300 pixels by 150 pixels at 96dpi. It just didn't work when blown up big for printing. He had looked around, trying to find an artist to redraw his logo in high-resolution, but every one he asked wanted in the ballpark of $1000+ to do it. So i did some digging; lots of digging. I found an artist named Mark Williams on DeviantArt. His work is impeccable. Lifelike but not photo-realistic. Just what I was looking for. The price was attractive too; about 10% of what the big boys were charging. I dropped him an email explaining what I wanted, and sent him the logo in it's original form; low-res. He gave me a quote, I sent the 50% downpayment, and he got to work. 2 days later, after a few emails back and forth to discuss ideas and to address any questions, he presented me with this: I was floored. It's absolutely perfect. I payed him the remaining balance and he sent me the PSD file and a nice high-res TIF. Now, Wolfe wasn't aware of any of this. To his knowledge, the topic was closed when we ended our conversation that evening. I presented his shiny new logo to him, and he was ecstatic. He immediately started designing shirts and such... But there was yet another small issue. Because the text and the Strat pickup in the logo is so light, it doesn't show up very well on a white t-shirt. It looks great on black; which he planned to do anyways, but some people wanted the option of a white Wolfetone shirt. So I flexed my own Photoshop muscles and came up with this beauty... Once again, he was ecstatic. Didn't ask for anything, but he insisted on at least sending me some Wolfetone merch when it's ready. Works for me. Feels nice to give back to a guy who's become a very good friend of mine over the past couple years, especially considering all the hard times he's had. Death, theft, a forced move...figured he could use some good news for once. So yeah...if you need high-quality drawings done, I highly suggest Mark Williams on DeviantArt. Great dude to work with. And obviously i'm a huge fan of Wolfe's pickups. A Tele set is next on my list... Thanks for reading, -Ryan
