Potential NGD - Sheraton 62 - need your help

Hi guys,

I'm near to buy a pristine 62 sheraton, but I have some doubts about the blue label (no serial # out of 1962?) and a strange sticker behind the headstock.

Your thoughts?

I really like the guitar, but I do not want to do a mistake.

Thanks you all.

Mimmo.

Is this person, or shop saying it's a "USA Kalamazoo made" Vintage '62 Sheraton?

It's the Chinese Reissue, by the look of it. Does it have a 2-screw Truss rod cover, or 3-screw?

I can't tell by the photo you supplied. The sticker? Who knows? May be a dealer

thing, regarding the case. But, a REAL (Vintage American) '62 didn't have white painted made in China,

on the back of the headstock, that the sticker seems to be "hiding!" The Chinese

Reissue did have a blue lable, to more closely match those of the American made ones.

Also, the "XXX of 1962" would refer to the 1962 (total) made, of that reissue!

Original USA Vintage versions, have 2-screw TRC's, and Gibson like truss rods. The Chinese

have the 3-screw TRC's, and the Chinese style "Well" type truss rods (with hex wrench adjustment).

Hi, it is a 62 reissue and the guy seems to be trust worth.

I never saw such a sticker, do not know what to think...

Thanks for your reply!

Mimmo.

Your most welcome, Mimmo! Good luck, with your purchase.

Those here, that have that model, are pretty enthusiastic

about it! [thumbup][biggrin]

Make sure to check for cracks around the nut. This model seemed have a weak spot there. Mine has them but they are just in the finish thankfully! I also ordered the Union Jack one and cannot wait for it. Post pics when u get it! Good luck!!

It is the Asian-made 2012 reissue of a '62 Sheraton,

per the Nashville sticker & serial number,

as well as all the visual cues of the guitar.

Best of luck on the purchase!

Hi, thanks! I m really curious abiura the Yellow sticker, hope epiphone will be able to help me: the seller claims that the guitar ca me with it!!

Cheers

Looks like this was bought at a music store and the store put the guitar on the floor knowing it came with a case and put that sticker on the back so when they sold the guitar the case in the back room was marked with the same. My guess a store inventory thing.

Sam Ash does the same thing on the card they attach to the guitar in the pouch and if you buy a Gibson/Fender guitar with case you will see they mark the case in the back room with masking tape with the right number to match up when they sell you the guitar.

I would not worry about the sticker.

The serial number should be on the little certificate they included with the guitar, the number of 1962 should be written in pen on that. Ask if the seller has that.

That is how mine came anyway.

Thx! Yes, the seller gas the COA, but I have seen in this forum that the exact number out of 1962 is not marked in the certificate, just the serial number of the guitar.

Thx for your reply, it's a good explanation, I feel better now :-)

stickers probably covering a "2" or some such evidence of being a factory 2nd.....also explains the lack of a number "of 1962"

Pull the sticker off and see.

The sticker is marked "CASE" followed by a number hence my guess at a music store putting the sticker on the guitar and one on the case so they can be matched up later.

Sam Ash marks all cases in the back room for guitars on display with masking tape. I know guys who work there and when I have bought guitars there, brought me the case with the tape still on the case and pulled it off before I left the store.

I also own a first 61 Casino and that came with the certificate card.

later found a Casino 2nd in Royal Tan for a great price and grabbed that too. Did not have the gray case just a standard Epiphone black case and no certificate.

The second has the serial number stuck on over the blue label by the place Epiphone sold it to as a 2nd.

Yours does not have the serial number blocked over on the blue label like my 2nd Casino does.

I doubt if this guitar was a 2nd Epiphone would include the certificate portfolio thing in this case either.

Who knows, if it is in good condition and you like it just enjoy!

Thanks all you guys for the replies, much appreciated!

I wandered if the sticker would cover a 2nd or something like this, but I saw new guitars bought in shops with the COA and without the # of 1962. I think the only way to know the truth is to remove the sticker...

Thx again guys!

wouldn't the "T" at the end of the model# denote the tremtone model, not a freakysator"???

gotta pull mine out now to check

Edit:.....mine w/the frequensator is Model E212TV

That's interesting--"T" in Epiphone/Gibson-speak usually means "thin", not that Sheratons ever came any other way, and "V" usually means "vibrato"--maybe yours was intended to have a vibrato and got a Frequensator instead--but Epiphone's vibrato is called a Tremotone, so there's a "T" again. I'm so confused...

The fact thatbit doesn't have the # out 1962 doesn't matter, that happened to a few at the factory. You can get all the info from customer service. I did that for my Sorrento, I didn't have a serial number.

For a second I thought you meant he bought it for himself! haha. Congrats on the incoming new guitar. A Sheraton or Wildcat are the only guitars I really would like to have add to my collection right about now.
