Run Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Got a Songwriter Deluxe Studio. My G string was buzzing when played open because it sat too low in he nut...I'll change for a new nut later but for the moment I used the glue and bone powder temporary repair (there are no "luthier" in my town. I want to order the proper file at "Stewart & Macdonald" and I'd like to know the right gauge to order . Thanks for helping. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Files/Gauged_Nut_Slotting_Files.html?actn=100101&xst=3&xsr=69088
ChrisM Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 If you are playing light gauge strings your G string is 0.024". You generally want a little bigger than the actually string size so I'd go with the 0.028" width nut file. I'm no expert though so I'd wait for someone else chime in before ordering...
