Felder/Styx/Foreigner Concert

I went to the Felder/Styx/Foreigner Soundtrack of Summer concert in Charlotte, North Carolina this past Saturday. Was great to be able to see all the guitars that were played. Lots of Gibson Les Pauls and Fender Strats, also some Gibson ES models (couldn't quite figure out which model). Felder appeared to be playing a Gibson Les Paul Standard with a quilted maple top. Tommy Shaw of Styx played Taylor acoustics. One was a 12-string Koa (couldn't figure out the model) and also a 6-string Taylor which appeared to me quilted maple. Pretty high priced guitars to be played in the humidity and heat of summer. Mick Jones of Foreigner did have a cool Gibson J-200 acoustic and he played what appeared to be a sunburst Les Paul Standard. Learning to play guitar has been great. Now when I go to concerts, I can actually appreciate what I'm hearing (LOL).

Thanks for the report. My wife is always impressed when I tell her what guitars are being played (if I know)... to her they all look alike.... just different colors.

Back in the last century er.1981/82 I was fortunate to work a show of the Eagles "Long Run " tour.First tour with the band for Tim Schmidt and maybe J.Walsh as well.Still have that pay stub!

I assisted offloading/setting up back stage all the axes off the Guitar truck. So between the Guys there were, over 80 different instruments guitars, basses, banjo.Gibson,Fender,Ovations,Gretsch,Epiphone just an entire huge room backstage full, jeez louise was it jaw dropping amazing..The sound check was every bit as good if not better (more loose, intimate) than the evenings show.

I sure would dig seeing this latest group of artist again,Hope they come out Sin City way..Peace out.

I saw this show last night.

Missed Felder altogether because we were stuck in stupid VA traffic. [thumbdn] We did hear some of his set from the parking lot. His guitar sounded awesome from what I could hear.

Styx was very tight, although I'm not sure how many members are original besides Tommy Shaw. The guy on keys was basically a Dennis DeYoung clone, but he was very talented and a great showman. Tommy did play some great stuff on his LP and ES.

Foreigner, at first seemed like a glorified tribute band. Mick Jones wasn't even playing on the first 4 songs. Whoever was playing guitar looked like Ben Stiller, and then he ended up playing keyboards and even saxophone. Mick finally came out to play some good stuff on his LP. The first song he played with them was "Feels Like The First Time" and I have to say that riff sounded really cool live. They sounded good the whole show, but I would have chosen some different songs. IMO, Styx should have been closing band.

The original drummer died a while back one of the original bass players has been very sick for the pass few years. Shaw and Young are the only original members still in the band. Although the actual fist band "The Tradewinds" didn't have ether of those two in it. John Anthony Panozzo (original drummer) and his brother Chuck on guitar started the band with one of there childhood neighbors Dennis DeYoung, DeYoung was fired from the band in the 1980's.

Saw Foreigner years past. After Lou Gramm split they just never had the stage presence / pop that Lou provided vocallyAlthough having caught them recently,I will say it seems Mick Jones has mellowed somewhat...
