flyingfrets
Like so many things, I believe it's a matter of degree. I've done it for years to get subtle pitch shifts (for example on "Heartbreak Warfare"). I personally wouldn't advise it for actual dive-bombs. If I were after those kind of mechanical effects, I have tremelo equipped guitars that were designed for it. Not up for deliberately breaking my Gibsons (or any of my set-necks for that matter), but kudos to anyone who doesn't mind what I consider an un-necessary risk. LPguitarman
I do it a lot. I learned it from watching Micheal Schenker do it for 40 years or so. Coincidentally this guitar player was in a Scorpions tribute band I was watching last Saturday.
capmaster
For dive bombs I exclusively use Floyd Rose guitars. And I also perform severe up bendings using the FR, or fretting fingers and FR combined.
