Installing P90s

So I'm wondering if I can install P90s into my 61RI. I will not route it out if they don't and I can't buy one with P90s right now. That is a lot of cash. The wife get upset ya know. What do u think? What about P94's?

I don't think P90's fit into that hole and P94's may not sound the same. Try and save for a used one with P90's.

Go online and check out Vintage Vibe Pickups.

http://www.vintagevibeguitars.com/

Pete's P-90's are some of the best you will find anywhere. He offers humbucker size P-90's in many different options.

This way you will not have to re-route or modify your Gibson.

He is an awesome guy that will work with you on questions, selection, options etc.

It has been my experience that his integrity and products are second only to his service, support and commitment.

I feel certain that he has something that will more than put a smile on your face.

Let me know how this works out if you decide to contact him and go this route.

Go cheap while you save for an SG w/P90s ...

GFS Mean90s fit humbucker holes and sound awesome for $35 pups. I put a set in an Epi LP along with pot changes to 250K ... sounded great.

So I guess that starts a whole new topic. What is the difference in sound from P90 to P94? I have tried listening on you tube, but if they are going for the tone you want to hear you don't know. Will you still get the same single coil sound or is some of that lost when the size changes?

great question.. I think everything that is different in the comparison, changes something.

I would have to really spend time a/b ing them with my own ears, and my own amp.

the sound clips on youtube can be quite miss leading.

As I mentioned yesterday...call and open Dialog with Pete at Vintage Vibe regarding P-90's

it is the man's stock and trade... (check reviews etc. as well).

He will be able to knowledgably answer any questions you might have.

He is in Hawaii so check the time zones before you phone him.

He is very good about answering e-mails as well.

I paid $ 180.00 for the matched pair he made for my Casino project.

Not what I would consider cheap but absolutely worth it.

Hmm I don't know Bob, have ya checked the price of a Gibson 57 Classic or classic + lately?

the pair will run you into the $400 ballpark.

Fair enough...I have a pair of Gibson burstbuckers (#1 at neck #3 at bridge) I installed into a custom built bolt neck maple solid body I scored off e-bay (made by a builder in Wisconsin, Mark Sean Price). At the time I bought the pups at GC not the best place but it was probably 8 years ago before I knew where online to shop and save. The price I think was $ 160.00 apiece for them then at that establishment. side note...what a difference they made! As far as what I paid for the P-90's.... at the time money was real tight in the family and picking up bits and pieces for the Casino project that was 6 years in gestation was very hard. Whether a price is cheap or expensive is directly relative to what is in your pocket and who other than yourself relies on whats in your pocket as well. The P-90s lived in the casino case for most of those years until I had the other parts the time and skills to complete the project. I probably pawned the guitar with the pickups also in the case but uninstalled, a couple of times in those years.

As I am sure a good many of you know raising 4 kids is not inexpensive and there is always more important needs than any hobby. I am very thankful to have most of those tough times behind us at this point (only one still in college and only 2 semesters left!!!)
