Going to order my j15 in a day or two but Got to wait few weeks on backorder but i dont want to go to another store and kind of like having extra time to clear more space on the plastic. Early July i will have my first Gibson acoustic im so pumped! Cannot wait to see another Gibson box in the mail. Pretty soon, ill be in the club! Cant wait to see it and may even make a video of the unboxing.
62burst Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 'Artist- Believe me, you're already in 'the club'. Your enthusiasm for the marque has led you here. You're always welcome, Gibson acoustic, or no. Enjoy the anticipation. We'll be awaiting your NGD pics... Edit: There's a club?

Thank you for the kind words, ive always thought a gibson acoustic was a bit of a pipe dream but these new models Gibson has now made it possible and next month dream will be reality. Even my gf is excited as she loves the walnut back and sides.
Gibson Artist Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 A stupid question but have you played a J-15? Yes, and the J35 both excellent.
MissouriPicker Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Yep, I too believe you're already part of "the" Gibson group. Owning an actual Gibson is the ultimate high for me, if one is a guitar player, but owning a Gibson is also a "state of mind." You're already there with that one, and soon you'll have the Gibson acoustic in your hands. I've played one J15 (only one I've seen so far) and I thought it was excellent. Real easy on my fingers too. It was gone a few days after it first showed-up at my nearby GC, last week. I'm real glad I got the chance to play it. I've been hunting for an AJ because I'm drawn to the big guitars, and the J15 is a full-fledged dreadnaught in its own right. Nice instrument. I think the visual contrast between the neck and sides/back of the guitar is really striking and a real attention-getter. The one I played was a sweet combination of looks and sound.....Get us a video when you've had a chance to play it for a while........Congrats.
IanHenry Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 I don't think you will regret your choice GA, in fact I'm seriously considering buying one myself, without doubt one of the best acoustics I've ever played. Ian
zombywoof Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 The one thing I would like to have seen Gibson try is to put a stinger on that neck. I recall seeing some mid-1990s limited edition Dove with one and thought it made the guitar stand out in the crowd. I think it would look particularly striking with that pale neck (which aesthetically I do not really care for).
zombywoof Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Hey MissouriPicker, I like your town. My job takes me over to the Harry Truman site on occasion and I always look forward to getting out and about for a bit in Independence. I have probably asked you this before but have you ever had any dealings with Keith George over in Lawson. He has had a Gibson L-4 or something hanging on the wall. Looks like he shot a new finish on it but then just forgot about the thing as it always seems to be there. Next time I get up there I have got to ask if it is for sale.
MissouriPicker Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Zomby, Keith George is likely the premier repair guy to go to around here for guitar work. I've only needed him for a setup, but I have friends who have used him for years and they swear by him. He's also the guy around here that GC uses. He picks-up at their stores. I have a good friend, Duane, who had George do a sunburst on a Martin 00018 and the guitar looks extremely cool. From having no bling, with a blonde color and kind of a utilitarian appearance, the guitar become something you can't keep from looking-at and its very folksy and warm looking. George is highly respected around here. Whenever you're going to be around here give me some notice. Maybe we can meet for lunch or coffee.. If your speaking of the Truman Sports Complex (Arrowhead and Kaufmann Stadiums), we're about 5 miles from there...or anywhere else in the area is in driving distance. Regarding the J15, along with the J35 and J29---as many are saying, I think these three "more affordable" guitars have made a large number of people take a good look at what Gibsons are. These new variations are top shelf instruments that match-up easily with the competition. Even with the higher priced competition. At first, I figured they were like what Martin and Taylor were offering in that price range, but in all sincerity (and I admit I love Gibsons) I think these new Gibsons tend to overwhelm their direct competing models (of similar price). These are really nice instruments. I hate it when Gibson comes-up with a dozen different models of its iconic guitars, but at the same time they do make some excellent decisions.

I am talking about the National Park Service's Harry Truman historic home site. I also go to the Truman Library every year to judge National History Day but that one has come and gone this year. But I will give you a heads up next time they send me up there. Martin guys I know call Keith George "Doc" due to his seeming ability to resurrect any guitar. He has worked on my '56 SJ (which I no longer have) and '56 Epiphone and is the guy who restored my 1942 J-50. We are getting ready to bring my wife's 1960 J-200 up to him. He is about 2 hours away so it sometimes takes a bit to work out a day to drive up there. One of the local stores here uses Keith so sometimes I luck out and can send my guitars up with one of theirs. The J-200 needs one top crack repaired and we are going to ask about removing the second plckguard someone had put on there.

Pittgibson45 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Congratulations on the Gibson, you will love it! Be careful with that plastic though, GAS is real and not so easily cured! Just kidding but I start wanting my next Gibson about a week after I get one.
natstrat79 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Congratulations on your decision. I just joined the forum after having bought a J35 a couple of weeks ago. I was able to play a J15, J35, and J45 side by side and chose the J35. I preferred the bark and low end of the J35 along with its beefier neck over the other two. The J15 however is still a great choice and at least comparing the individual guitars I tried I think the J15 and J45 were more similar than the J35 was to the other two. If both those two were reprentative of J15s and J45s in general then I would say anyone looking for a J45 on the cheap would be well served with the J15.
kwalker201 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I just ordered my J15, It should be here Friday. Have any of you went ahead and replaced the saddle and pin with bone?
blindboygrunt Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I just ordered my J15, It should be here Friday. Have any of you went ahead and replaced the saddle and pin with bone? Geez man . wait til you get it ! :)
Slinky1 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I just ordered my J15, It should be here Friday. Have any of you went ahead and replaced the saddle and pin with bone? I got mine in February. I love it. Haven't changed anything, except the strings, lol. I'm on the second pack of 80/20s that came with it. I usually use EJ-17s, kind of liking these 80/20s though.
kwalker201 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Geez man . wait til you get it ! :) I know, This is my first ever Gibson or even a top name brand. I just want to let the sound come through all it can.
blindboygrunt Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I know, This is my first ever Gibson or even a top name brand. I just want to let the sound come through all it can. get it home. play it a while first. You may not want to change a thing. learn about tusq. I'm not saying one is better or worse, but if it ain't broke. ...... Just because lots of folk say stuff on forums, doesn't make it gospel. string and plectrum choice will change your tone more than anything. play with those first. :)
MissouriPicker Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Amen to what blindboy said. This is the internet. Lots of opinions and everybody has one. All of my Gibsons are just the way they came. No reason to change them. Play your guitar and don't get caught-up in the hype/bull/exaggeration/etc. on the internet. These forums are a convenient way to get info and advice (all to be taken with the proverbial "grain of salt"). There are as many views on whither or not bone enhances sound and tone as there are stars in the sky. And beyond that, no one really cares if I replace my bridge/pins/saddle with bone, and if they did care it's likely they wouldn't know unless I told them. You've got a sweet instrument coming your way. Enjoy it. Play-the-hell out of it. But first, get us some pictures and perhaps video/audio so we can hear it.

DRC Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 I think he's busy doing two things....playing it and staring at it. :) DC
kwalker201 Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 I think he's busy doing two things....playing it and staring at it. :) DC OMG, holy cow I can't believe this guitar. I fell in love as soon as I opened the case. The sound this projects and when I strum it. The sustain just goes on and on. Think I will be up all night with it. But you are right I have been starring at it and playing it for a solid 2 hours. Stopped so I can eat dinner and back at it.
