jdgm
Alas - I have just read of the death of truly awesome jazz giant Horace Silver, the brilliant, much-loved and long-lived pianist and composer who wrote so many wonderful jazz tunes. "If there was ever a man who was generous, gracious and good....." (from Leon Thomas's lyrics to Silver's classic "Song For My Father"). Silver really was an amazing composer, responsible for a considerable number of tunes which are now hard bop standards; we will never see his like again. R.I.P. zigzag
I hope this is just another rumor, like the one several months ago. Edit: Nope. It appears to be true. Sad news. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPhmhZYjaqc
Notes_Norton
And the music in heaven will be better now. Thanks Horace for the great songs, and the lessons in jazz harmony and arranging.
Notes_Norton
Didn't Steely Dan borrow the opening from Song For My Father as the opening for Rikki Don't Lose That Number? Yes, and stated it was an homage to Horace
