Safe alt. on Nitro,in a pinch when out of guitar polish?

Lighter Fluid, or Naphtha! No Silicon based polishes, though. Meguiar's silicon free

auto polish will work well, too. You may just need to use the Naphtha, for cleaning,

and then a soft ALL COTTON cloth, to polish it, alone? Depends on how "serious"

the finish problem is.

An old violin maker from Las Vegas told me he made his polish out of tooth paste and vaseline.

Did not believe him until he mixed up some and polished out a violin in front of me.

Thats a home made mixture for sure

Hello!

Yes, it works. I used to use tooth paste on my black Les Paul Studio.

However, find an old-fashioned paste, because those with micro-particles will scratch the finish badly.

As an advice from a professional (Dan Erlewine): use polishing compounds only on relatively new guitars. On vintage finishes try to avoid them. He recommends breath moist, or distilled water with pure cotton rag. When these methods do not work, use naptha lightly.

Cheers... Bence
