Scotty Lonesome
Hi All, I just bought this 1983 LP standard. Anyone know what these pickups are? Thanks, Scotty. Here's the link to the mlp site where i have the pics (too big for here). http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/gibson-les-pauls/306065-ngd-1983-tobacco-burst-std.html Many thanks, Scotty
cjsinla
It's hard to say. Not sure if that neck one is a Shaw or not. Here's a pic of the Shaw in my 82 Anniversary LP. It does look as if yours is from that era at least. The Shaws usually have the ink stamp but have a space between the first three numbers and the date (second group). I believe that the Shaws were put into the Deluxes, Heritage 80's, and other prehistorics like the korina V's and Explorers. I think the Standards might have had something else in them. The other pup looks newer, could be a Burstbucker or something similar.
pippy
I can't be any more helpful than either cjsinla or Orangeaap. Perhaps sending the images of the p'ups base-side to Customer Service? Could you measure the bridge p'up resistance? It won't narrow it down to the exact type but it might give you a rough idea. According to Gibson's own spec. pages; BurstBucker 1s are, typically, somewhere around 6.5 ohms. B'B 2s, B'B Pros ditto 7.4. '57 Classics ditto 7.5. '57 Classic + ditto 8.3 B'B 3s ditto 8.4. Sorry I can't be of more help. Nice guitar, btw! P.
Scotty Lonesome
Thanks All, the reply from Gibson CS: The neck is a Tim Shaw PAF - original to guitar. They said the bridge was not original - maybe burstbucker? Thanks, Greg.
