Se7entyTimes7
So my pick guard finally gave out :( I ordered a new one thats in the mail right now. I was wondering if I have to worry about the wood cracking. It looks like there is some mahogany missing that I guess came up with the pick guard. Almost looks like tiny vertical scoops were taken out. Do I have anything to worry about or can I just throw a new pick guard on top?

tvguit
I think it's time to bring this one to an experienced luthier who will do the repair correctly. He may even want to spray some black nitro on the pickguard to get it to match the sunburst evenly. By the way, that is a Spruce top, not Mahogany. Mahogany was used for the top sometimes between 1943 and 1946 but it's rare.
fp
Why can't you reuse your existing guard ?
