The exact date is not exactly certain, but many sources say Orville H. Gibson's birthday was the same as that upon which he died, August 21st. Wikipedia article only hints at what was at work in the mind of Orville Gibson. Died in state hospital, buried Malone, NY, some 13 miles from where he was born. Give him a think next time you look at that headstock logo, or just listen to your guitar.

Thanks, Orville.

Just finished JT's book "Kalamazoo Gals". I know I'm a little behind, but finally got to it. Interesting stuff about Orvllle in the book. I never knew anything about him.

BTW, just in case I'm not the only person here who had not read the book, go get one and read it.

Happy birthday to you

Happy birthday to Orv

Happy birthday dear Gibson

Happy birthday to Orv

How old are you now

How old are you now

Well I bet you are vintage

How old are you now

I am playing my Bird

It is here by my shirt

I am sure you can hear it

No it won't sing unheard

Then I change to my slope

It's so willing to cope

Seems the sound is more rounded

and it fills me with hope

Now your own mandolin

Turned a'left with a grin

it is ringing from heaven

where you gently chime in

We are starting to jive

and your soul comes alive

You are wearing that wild dress

and we're jamming like five

May you keep talking loud

May you never fade out

May you always stay Orville

and make gibsonites proud
