Just went a bought some pine board and batton, enough for a 1x12 combo (decided to build FarnsAmp MkII into a combo)c and spent about £70.00 in Wicks. There must be a better way to do it?

Well you can always try what I did...

I found a local joinery company.. Their offcuts are HUGE and just sit there in a large shipping container.. The guy who runs it lets me have a whole boot load of wood for £10.. Even though I may just have been really lucky to find them.. Originally I was just looking for someone to help cut up a couple of huge pieces I had as I didn't have the right tools to do it myself. And when I explained what I was doing he was like well if you want any spare wood we have loads.. He also said hes willing to order me in something special if I want it (which I will do the next time im there, like a nice big bit of walnut or something).

Or find a timber company maybe.. something like that.

Just a thought but you might try finding some old shipping pallets or skids.

Usually pretty substantial wood (depending on the product shipped*) and will do a nice job especially it if is to be covered.

*A paper company that gets the huge rolls would be the best place to start.

Just make sure you're not buying a grade that's too good for what you need. Knots are o.k. Warps and splits are no good. Here in the states I can buy a #2 grade, 1x10 x 10 foot pine board for $18.00 at Home Depot. But you have to literally "sniff out" the pine boards from the fir and whitewood boards, cause they're all included in that particular grade of boards. If you're not using pine, you might as well use most anything, 'cause pine is the ticket and everything else isn't. [thumbup]
