Good afternoon,

I am new to the Gibson Les Paul family, I have had a few 335 and a few accoustics but never a les paul. I have spotted this guitar on ebay but i cant find much info on the guitar. Is there anybody that could give me a few pointers on it, first if its a good price if there are better options out there. I have been offered a trade for a les paul traditional in chicargo blue that i have never opened and my 2008 Martin D28. He would like both my guitars and £1000 cash.

Many thanks.

Not really my area of expertise, but based on a quick search for second hand Martin D-28's, and Les Paul Traditional's; he is asking waaay too much for this if adding £1000 on to it. I reckon you've got about £2500 of gear already, so he's asking for £3500 with the cash, for something he's listed at £2700!

I'm sure there are some more experienced people on the forums who might be able to weigh-in, (and please correct me if I'm wrong here!) but I would not do that trade.

In the end it will be an entirely personal decision, so I post my personal opinions on this topic.

Since I am not an aged/battered/beat up guitar guy, I would go with a glossy reissue in case I wanted that. Considering I owned a Traditional regardless of finish, and let alone an additional Martin D 28, I would stay with these. I guess you had your reasons for buying what you have, and the seller offering this R8 also knows why he wants your guitars I believe.

Perhaps I feel and think this way because I'm a player, singer, songwriter and toneseeker, not a collector. Therefore, besides some "lonesome" items, I own - in chronological order of their first introductions - several Telecasters, Les Pauls, Stratocasters and SGs although the same money would have bought me a nice reissue of each. My goal is tonal flexibility for painting with tones, not authenticity of remakes, "mojo" or collector's value.

By the way, among my Gibson Les Paul guitars is a Traditional 2013 in Heritage Cherry Sunburst.

Just my two cents.

Man.. for that sort of price you have A LOT of options... and if it were me I wouldn't be buying it off ebay, id have to try it as all LPs are different in set up and neck profile etc since they are all hand finished instruments...

Here a few options

http://www.dv247.com/guitars/gibson-1958-les-paul-reissue-chambered-electric-guitar-vos-lightly-figured-trans-cherry--99669

But really spending that sort of cash, you gotta try it.. You may hate the neck for instance (and they are all different even within the same model line).

Of course ultimately its your choice :) Good luck.

I don't understand. You say you have had 335's and acoustics but never a LP. Then you say you are trading a LP Traditional that you have never opened and a Martin D-28 plus £1000 of those. Not sure what £1000 equals in US Dollars. I assume Trading all that for the R8 or am I not reading it right?

I have had a few gibson guitars but never a les paul,I have just bought a traditional but I havnt had the guitar yet as its coming over from the states. Over here in the uk Gibson custom shops are alot more than over in the states. The guitar i have seen and offered i have been told is a ltd ed, with a retail of £4900 over here. I fancy a high end gibon but i cant afford the prices over here. The martin i have i never really play so i though i could do a trade and get my hands on a custom shop Gibson but i just not to sure if its worth it. £1000 is about $1600
