SG Special Faded 3

Hey guys, newbie here. And a strat player (please don't shoot!!!). I've been looking into getting a gibson to have the best of both worlds. I like LPs, but can't stand the weight or the price. I had an sg special for a very short while during a hard rock/metal phase I was going through. I didn't appreciate guitar tone at the time. Too young. Anyway, I play in a rock/funk/reggae type of band now, and I'm really interested in getting an SG. Something with more thickness than a strat, but not harsh, heavy tones. I'm checking out the sg special faded 3. The white one is one of the nicest looking guitars I've seen in awhile. Are these guitars good for stuff like that? I play in a style compared to a John Frusciante meets Hendrix meets Clapton (cream era). My rig is a '73 marshall plexi bass model half stack. Any advice?

I've only seen the SG Special Faded 3 (never bothered to play it because I didn't have enough time at the guitar store) but I have to agree with you, they do look pretty nice. I have an SG Special Faded (2 pickup version) in worn cherry and let me tell you, that thing is unbelievable. With that beast, I can play exactly like Iommi and with less distortion (and actually bringing the tone knobs away from 0) I can sound like Clapton (in the Cream era). The SG is a great guitar and it sounds good with just about any style of playing. If you like the way the SG Special Faded looks, I'd go for it, because I'm pretty sure that you can get the tone you want out of it.
