I loved the title track off that by Don Felder!

I thought that was awesome back in the day!!!

That's as heavy as anything I've ever liked, but the Don Felder guitars were unmistakable...

Well, the term Heavy Metal was starting to catch on big time an as uusal record companies wanted to tag anything to what was popular.

I have a "Heavy Metal" compilation that has ZZ Top in it.

Here, the term "Heavy Metal" doesn't have anything to do with music at all. It's the name of the magazine. The movie came out in 1981. I saw it in 1982 and at age 12 it made a huge impression on me. Particularly the music. I bought the sound track on cassette and wore it out. When I was a kid there was no internet to tell you about new music and let you listen for free. You learned about new bands by buying compilations and soundtracks that had at least one tune you liked and maybe you would love some of the others too. This album was the first time I had ever paid attention to Donald Fagen or Trust or RIGGS. The Heavy Metal LP hangs framed over my desk as one of the most influential records in my life.

Growing up broke, compilations were a good deal and like you say a good way to introduce new bands.

Here is the one that introduced me to Iron Maiden in 1981, "Heavy Duty" good from beginning to end.

Plus like I say: Because there is no shuffle button on vinyl.
