Californiaman Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Yeah! Brian May and Iommi tone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_uE8pyfn2o&index=2&list=RD7CI-k8s6Tvk
Riffster Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Yea, I saw that Sabra Cadabra pedal a couple of weeks ago and GAS was strong but I came to my senses, my Dyna Ranger does real well.
Jimi Mac Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Pedals are a dime a dozen... Don't get me wrong, many of them work really well and do what they say. I have a few I really like There's just too many of them to choose from... It's very easy to get lost in a sea of electronics chasing PDS! (Pedal Derangement Syndrome) I have a handful of them, but I find myself going retro mostly. Even though I have a Digitech RP50 digital multi-effects pedal. It has like 85 presets on it, but only about a half-dozen of them are worth anything, yet those half dozen presets are really awesome... Sad thing is I'm as likely to be totally swayed by marketing on these as anything else. If it says "British" or is adorned with a Union Jack I'm like a Pavlovian Dog; I start to drool when I hear the "British" bell... I think there are several good brands out there and frankly there are simply too many brands out there! Without wasting my life reading tech sheets it's just too hard to know what's good and what's crap... It's too easy to fall prey to this:

It's too easy to fall prey to this: Yeah I agree with Jimi, My Boss ME 50 does everything I need it to and I have some very personal patches stored in it I dailed in myself. Yeah I use my Golden Cello by Mad professor and I hope to get some use out of my new Electro Harmonics B9 but PHMG ( Pedal Hype Marketing Gas ) has gotten the best of me a few times…
surfpup Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Without wasting my life reading tech sheets it's just too hard to know what's good and what's crap... It's not hard at all. Use your ears. If it sounds good, it's good. If it sounds like crap, it's crap. Pedals are fun. I buy 'em, try 'em, keep 'em, sell 'em, mod 'em, make 'em, love 'em. Admittedly the selection these days is mind boggling. But how can more flavors be a bad thing? My biggest problem lately is that Andy at ProGuitarShop makes everything sound so d@mn great!

My biggest problem lately is that Andy at ProGuitarShop makes everything sound so d@mn great! Agreed! Andy makes we want stuff, but I can't play that good either... I guess there's nothing wrong with more flavors, but if you went into Baskin Robins and they had 1,031 Flavors, the line would be long and slow... I usually surf Youtube for gear demos. Sound can be deceiving... If a guy has some fairly professional recording apps he'll get a better mix than you can dial-up live with the same pedal. And in my case my audio limitations of the built-in mic on my semi-ancient digital cam just doesn't do some of the tones I get any justice at all... You get both ends of the spectrum. I must say my DOD Overdrive Preamp/250 is the best OD pedal I've ever used/heard, and the fantastic sounds and tones just aren't done justice on my digital cam for my in-studio recordings... But I've also found that I spend the vast majority of my time simply on the gain channel of my Fender Blues Deluxe reissue. It is superb and nearly makes OD pedals obsolete or simply unnecessary. I thought reviews say it's more of a subtle OD on that model, but I find it full, saturated, and very rich sounding! I turn off my pedals most of the time just to hear the natural amp OD...
