onewilyfool
This article applies to electrics, but can acoustics be far behind? Someone else posted that Gibson is down to just a few acoustic models this year….????? http://reverb.com/blog/gibson-to-increase-prices-update-models-for-2015?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=rn091014
j45nick
There certainly seem to be a lot of marketing changes going on at Gibson right now, especially with electrics. Who knows if it will spill over into Gibson Montana? They may wait and see how it works with the electrics before trying it on acoustics.

zombywoof
Gibson has seen fit to allow Bozeman to operate almost as an independent shop. But I would also guess you will see prices on the rise. Gibson Brands is a major corporation and no matter how much we would like to believe they are doing it for the pure love of making music the scramble for the almighty dollar is the bottom line. Me, I am sitting pretty with Gibsons so I have no dog in this hunt. Of course, a rise in price of new guitars though will probably drag the prices of used instruments up so the ripples of a price increase will be felt far and wide. I think I'll hang onto my 2008.
Phelonious Ponk
If they do this in the Montanna line, that'll be a reversal of the successful strategy of the very high quality entry-level models introduced in the last year or so. But maybe the margins in the J35, 15, and 29 are too narrow. Or maybe Gibson figures they can afford to be a premium guitar company only, leaving the lower end to Epiphone. If thelstteristhecsse, they're going to need to expand the Masterbuilt line, or abandon a huge chunk of th market. P

I thought that was a pretty good deal. Hey Jannus, good to see you again, my friend :) Yep, I'd say that was a pretty good deal! I'm seriously considering snagging this one from the Private Reserve at Musicians Friend. It's a pretty penny for a pretty guitar, but I like that 120th Anniversary inlay at the 12th fret. Sweet! http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/gibson-custom-western-classic-2014-edition-120th-anniversary-model-acoustic-guitar
tinman1
This article should've been published on April 1st. 30% price increase, shitty new headstock logo (dispite widespread unhappiness about 2014s 120th logo), further expansion of the controversial minitune, wider necks (??) and brass nuts. WTF?

modoc_333
These changes apply to the USA line. That doesn't mean all American Gibsons. USA is a division itself. Henry runs the whole company, but he is especially close to USA. He really doesn't mess with the others too much.... not yet anyway! Let's hope he lets the others run themselves. There have been some really great things out of Montana recently. Memphis too. There have been AMAZING things out of the Custom Division in the last 2 years. USA? hmmm...... I won't answer. ;) Edit: After reading the article, i have to point out some inaccuracies. One example being that it's the end of guitars under $1000 b/c they aren't doing satin finishes. It's true that everything will be gloss, but the prices will still be 3 digits.
zombywoof
Don't know - with Gibson Montana asking $3200 for that latest L-1 incarnation price increases would seem redundant.
tokairic
If Gibson are increasing prices they will definitely need to improve the quality control or they will be dead in the water! They should never have tried to produce 'cheap' Gibsons, leave that to Epiphone who do it better. The Studio is as basic as a Gibson should ever be. Scrap the miniEtune piece of crap to save money. Don't call any guitar 'special' or 'limited' or 'traditional' unless it really is - these terms have been used to lure idiots into buying poor guitars at high prices, that must surely hurt Gibson. Seems to me there have been some dire marketing errors leading to a push on prices. This increase is not good. It has a screwy logic. You cannot just increase prices and expect to make more money. Higher prices = Less Sales = Less Profit (leading to Increased Prices Again) = Eventual Bankruptcy. If you need more profit you must generate more sales by first improving quality and maintaining or even reducing the prices. Later when there is increased demand you can increase prices to capitalise on the demand without increasing manufacturing costs. to increase prices on the assumption that you will make more money is just bad business sense. However if Gibson are desperate enough to try this they must be financially stressed - and that is not a good situation to be in, especially in 2014 after six years of trade recession.
