BluesKing777 Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I got a good deal on a Neumann KM184 pencil condenser mic yesterday, a bit of an old dream come true - they were always too expensive, but.... I wanted a slightly fuller sound when I record my guitars, instead of the great SM57. I got it! Here is a track I did yesterday - the guitar is perhaps a touch loud , but the tune captures BK777 in full post purchase exuberance.... Strap in for my version of David Bowie's: "Ashes to Ashes" re-arranged for solo guitar/vocal: https://soundcloud.com/bluesking777/ashes777b BluesKing777.
j45nick Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Nice recording. Hard to beat that particular mic. You playing the BK here?
BluesKing777 Posted September 12, 2014 Author Posted September 12, 2014 Nice recording. Hard to beat that particular mic. You playing the BK here? I think with the levels up on the guitar in this track, that it may have been earlier on when I was playing my 000-15 mahogany top. I did lots of tracks trying to get the mic levels etc (first thing I had to do was turn everything WAY down). All very exciting! I did a few tracks with the OM, but was getting a lot of bass boom - I read somewhere where they said: "Well, you said you wanted it to pick up everything! And it did!" And of course, I was going to keep the buying of that mic close to my chest, but already have blurted it out here. What is the matter with me? Once a couple of guitar player friends hear about it, they will be over here taking over.... BluesKing777. Edit: I meant to say those guitars got picked to record first because they have the newest strings!
onewilyfool Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Mic sounds great …a little hot some times, but very full!!! Guitar player sounds a bit "shady" if you know what I mean??!!
