I know a lot of folks don't care for his music but I know there are a few who do..

So has anyone else heard it yet? I listened to it this week.. and was quite disappointed... I liked the Slash and Friends album and listen to Apocalyptic Love (the last one) while im working a fair amount and Aint Life Grand (slash's snakepit)

But this new album.. it was just a bit boring.. not saying its terrible, but pretty much nothing about it was outstanding for me.. probably the best tune is World on Fire, the first track... But the rest.. meh!!!

I will try it again cos sometimes you need to listen to an album a few times to start to get into it, but for some reason I doubt it in this case...

Oh well.. it wasn't like I was expecting anything different from Slash cos he does what he does... but I wasn't feeling this one.

But id be interested to see what other people think (if anyone has heard it yet).

I haven't listened to any new Slash material since Velvet Revolver, but would be interested to hear it.

Slash was the first guitarist I got into as a kid (as I'm sure he was for many) and G n' R were way better than most of the music you would see on TV back then! Since then I've studied Jazz at degree level and many types of music. I think it's unfair he gets a lot of negative comments from the guitar playing community! I still sometimes listen to G n' R/ Snakepit's first album (the best one) and always enjoy all his 80's & 90's stuff.

Anyone who can write Coma, Lower and Locomotive is pretty darn good IMO, even if he was a druggy & alcoholic!!!

I liked the Rock n F Roll album a lot, Apocalyptic Love is just too intense for me with Myles on the vocals so I listen to it in small doses. After that record I did not think the follow up would be good since it seems they have exhausted their writing for a while.

Slash is a great guitar player but he is a nomad with no home, this borrowed band is not going to work in the long run.

Heres a track from the new album

And heres one from the Slash "and friends" album 2010 which was a load of pretty cool collaborations, this one with Ian Astbruy

Well put sir....

You kinda just wish hed find a REALLY talented multi dimensional singer to work with....

I also liked what Slash did with Lenny Kravitz for the short time he worked with him.. in some ways it may have been a good collaboration in the long term if only Lenny was so up his own arse... ;)

World On Fire has been getting some airplay on the local rock station and I like it. [thumbup]

I haven't heard anything else off the album though.

I like his style, but I wouldn't say he was a great player. I listen to 'Made in Stoke' quite a bit at work, Miles works great with him. You don't hear many great albums in general any more. I suppose there isn't the money to be in the studio for months, hence it's all two week albums now.

I have only heard a few tracks off the album and I like it.

The singer is slowly pushing me away from his music... Get's a little grating after a while!

He's a must see live guitar player!.... Fantastic!

I will check the album out because I love Slash's playing. When I hear him, it takes me back to when I first started playing guitar as he was my first influence. The hardest thing for me and his recent solo stuff is the production (too much compression, gives me ear fatigue) and Miles Kennedy. That vocal style is nails on a chalk board. Wish he could have hooked up with a different singer; someone more in the Ian Astbury frame.

Of the singers he has recorded albums with post G n' R, Eric Dover was my favourite.

Honestly..... Anything past appetite for destruction doesn't do it for me. Tw acoustic album with patience on it was a trip but really appetite has all the best tunes IMHO. I dunno how he got so big as a guitar player years after that. He markets himself well I guess. Sorry.

This is the thing...

For a few of us on here including me he was the guitarist that got me into playing cos I was at that age as Appetite came out and it blew my mind (along with Thunderstruck by ACDC).. I think that theres some great stuff between Use Your Illusions 1 & 2 albums (that really should have been one GREAT album rather than two Ok ones)...

Since then (and going straight from the booze and whatever he was in to) hes worked with so many of the great artists in the world and being a guest guitarist at gigs plus being in Slash's Snake Pit, Velvet Revolver and doing his own thing... And you are right he markets himself well and does what he does really well and works hard at it.. And that's why I still respect him (as I would do with any person who has managed to stay in the music biz for so long) he just works hard at doing what he does and makes a living playing the guitar... While he may not be the best or most technical or classic trained guitarist hes pretty good at the rock thing.. He just needs to work with a good composer or lyricist which I think is whats lacking in his career.... He certainly has the skill to do more..

The 2010 Slash album is one of my all-time favourites. Some fabulous songs, only one or two which I didn't care for. Somehow, despite all the different singers, it worked - Slash was the constant. Live in Stoke is awesome, too. I have tried to get into Apocolyptic Love, but it's just too metal for me - the tunes are nowhere near as good. The Myles / Slash collaboration worked well at the start, but reading the comments here, maybe it's time to break up.

I've noticed a lot of people comment in the past that they don't like Slash because he's not 'the best' or 'the most technically gifted player'...this intrigues me, because if we're to go on that premise, it means you couldn't like around 90 per cent of most 'known' blues, rock & metal players!!

Look at the classical players Andres Segovia, Julian Bream, Pepe Romero, etc, who are trained & extremely gifted technically. This also goes for many jazz players too. Many of these guys could put the rock & metal guys to shame, in terms of knowledge of harmony, improvisation and many other aspects of musicianship.

Also look at the knowledge and genius of composers like Charles Ives, Dmitri Shostakovich, Aaron Copland or Krzysztof Penderecki to name just a few. These guys could create pieces so technically advanced & beyond contemporary genres that you can't even compare!!

Now, I personally love all the musicians I've mentioned above, just because some are in a different league doesn't make them 'better' or 'worse'. I still love listening to Slash's Snakepit: It's Five O' Clock Somewhere album as much as I enjoy listening to Central Park In The Dark by Charles Ives!! Equally, in terms of guitarists I love Joe Pass' playing, but I also love Neil Young's playing and sound... and technically Neil can't play!!

In conclusion it is all subjective and very much down to an individuals preferences [smile]

Totally agree, Cody. [thumbup] It's just opinion. Paul Kossoff's playing moves me. Some people don't rate him at all. Clapton does not move me. Some people think he's God. [wink]

I love Slash's playing. I don't care if he's slower/less technical than player XXXX - so what? I love his playing.
