IBJL Casino Pickup Selector Switch Rattle / Buzz

Hi all,

I recently picked up an Inspired By John Lennon "1965" Casino, and I've been loving it. However, from day one, the pickup selector switch has rattled or buzzed occasionally in the middle position (depending on the chord I play). I unscrewed the white cap on the switch, and the post itself still rattles (and stops when I touch it).

The guitar is under warranty so I know I can bring it in to be fixed, but I just wondered if anyone here knew of a way I could address the problem myself? (I just don't want to part with the guitar right now!)

Given the fact that the problem seems to be with the switch itself, my guess is that the part will need to be replaced, but I'd welcome any other suggestions. I'm really a saxophone guy originally, so I don't have much expertise with this stuff.

Thanks!

Dude, just be thankful that is the only buzzing/rattling your guitar is displaying.

When I got my first Casino I heard a dreaded rattle. Damn! I looked all over...bridge, strings, nut, pickups improperly installed, truss rod sympathetic vibration.... Was I glad that all it was was the tip of my selector switch.

This happens on a lot of Cainos. I suppose you can try to replace the old with a new switch, but do you really want to do that repair (and it may not solve the problem) for something so minor? Mine rattled once or twice when I first got the guitar, but now I don't even know if it is rattling. Maybe your rattle will go away. Or maybe you just won't notice it anymore. Short of replacing the whole switch, I can't think of any way to fix it. And as I said, the new one may rattle, too.

Thanks for the thoughts, Taxman! Maybe I'll just keep playing it awhile and see how much it bothers me. ;-)

I guess I'd hoped that by getting a Casino with USA electronics that I might avoid little issues like this, but I guess not!

I'm replacing my switch with a Switchcraft one. I don't really notice the rattle but for £42 supplied and fitted I am gonna change it for the better quality. Mine is MIC and I've heard this is common for these.

I'm pretty sure this is a Switchcraft that I'm getting the rattle from - the upgraded pickups & electronics were part of the appeal of the Inspired By model for me.

I'm guessing maybe fully hollow guitars like the Casino are more susceptible to these kinds of rattles & buzzes because the bodies just vibrate more?

I don't know about that but reading about it made me believe a good quality switch would cure it. Going to give it to my local guitar tech next weekend.

I will keep you posted

you are correct, the IB Casino has a Switchcraft. they are great switches but like anything else; sometimes there's a bad one that gets through. no matter what brand it is, sooner or later it's going to rattle or quit working.

Some of my toggle switches are rattling more in the middle position, others less. I don't care as long as it doesn't affect the output signal, and it never did. This is about Switchcrafts, by the way.
