lazarusvt84 Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Is this a 2012 or 2013? Did Gibson start a new numbering scheme? My son's 2013 Trad and our other LP's (05, 07, 09, 10 and 11) all follow the consistent scheme of having the fifth digit correspond to year made. I'm confused. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-Gibson-Les-Paul-Standard-Desert-Burst-Left-Handed-/251668572043?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123
capmaster Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 No problem. The peghead back also says 2013 model, and some of them were made in late 2012. Think of the 2015 models already available now... I guess you heard and read about them.

Thanks! ...sort of like automobiles where the 2015's came out in the Spring of 2014.

capmaster Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Yup.. My 2008 Standard was made in 2011 Helterskelter - you were faster in posting!
Rabs Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Helterskelter - you were faster in posting! Lol.. yes I have lightning fast typing hands (faster than my playing hand  ) And my guitar has the build year stamped on
capmaster Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Lol.. yes I have lightning fast typing hands (faster than my playing hand  ) And my guitar has the model year stamped on Your guitar tells the year of build. Now they say "YYYY MODEL" usually, regardless of year of build.

Yes I should have said year built rather than model :) So it now actually tells you the model year ? So the 2015s will have 2015 on the back and a 2014 model number Ok I just actually checked the listing.. Well I guess at least you know what your getting unlike mine which would be very confusing for anyone who doesn't know what a 2008 Standard is. Oh and by the way, theres something wrong with that guitar.. its all upside down and back to front :P :)
capmaster Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 ... Oh and by the way, theres something wrong with that guitar.. its all upside down and back to front :P :) You should better take care - my daughter is a LEFTY! She is no guitar or bass player though, at least not up to now, but when thinking of myself, she still has more than seven years left to start with.

Lol.. actually I have no problem with lefty guitar players.. Leftie drummers however is another thing.... When I was in a band many years ago we had a regular spot at the studio and so did the band who practiced before us and guess what, he was a left handed drummer and our drummer had to spend the first 20-30 mins re-setting the whole thing up.. What a pain in the bum :) I was also just looking at that listing again.. (a beautiful guitar by the way even if its backwards :P) lol and in his description he is taking advantage of the 2015s... he says that apparently that year is the best Gibson have made in a while which I guess with all the recent drama he has read on forums like this... I wonder how much all of this is really going to effect the used market.

There were or are only few guitarists like Jimi Hendrix or D!ck Dale doing so, and for a certain period Ritchie Blackmore. Honestly, I think that 2013 Gibsons will be seen as something special for the next years to come. On the other hand, even my 2012 Alex Lifeson Axcess LP with a laminated fretboard is a great sounding guitar. Another 2012 LP of mine has a one-piece fretboard, and I don't know about that of a third one. There has been no reason for removing the nut up to now.
capmaster Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 ... My son's 2013 Trad ... ... Your son has a 2013 Trad? I guess it is a great one like mine! :) I love that thing.
