Hello all.....I just bought my first Gibson acoustic. My first "real" guitar was a Les Paul Deluxe my dad bought for me when I was about 16 years old. I no longer have it unfortunately, and have gone through a ton of gear since then....I am now 50. I converted to the acoustic world about a year ago. Went through the normal trial and error with the major brands and buying stuff that really didn't fit. Two thing I remember about Gibson acoustics....

First, my uncle had a Hummingbird that was in terrible condition. It had apparently been dropped at some point, and the body had two large cracks from both sides of the neck right in the center of the body running over each shoulder of the guitar. If that wasn't enough....someone had drilled holes through the top and back and tried bolting the guitar together. My uncle bought the guitar for 10 bucks and it sounded incredible. On a side note my uncle tried selling the guitar to me many years later for some absolutely ridiculous price....I passed!

Second, is before I moved away from the electric scene there was a local shop that had some nice acoustics in stock. I played a few and always gravitated towards a J45 if there was one in stock. Something about the soft shoulders and over all feel was very pleasing to my ear. Never harsh or flat, but warm and round with nice balance. I felt I could play it for hours and never develop ear fatigue.

This weekend I went to buy a capo and saw a J15. Played it and thought it sounded great. It looked beautiful and I was impressed with the build quality. I then smelled the inside and I was taken back to when I was 16 years old. Not sure if it is the glue, lacquer or what, but it did remind me of my old Les Paul for some reason. I believe the case the Deluxe had smelled the same too. Anyway, I bought it and I couldn't be happier.

Sorry for the long introduction, but I hope to spend a lot of time here and share more stories!

Play it in good health! - Lots of love for that new Gibby model on this forum.

While the new J35 has the Advanced Bracing, the J15 has bracing more like the J45 Standards. So I am not surprised that you, who likes the sounds of J45s, also like this J15.

Beautiful guitar, and congratulations...

NPN,

Welcome.

The walnut on those J 15's sure is sweet.

Be careful now that you have joined sometimes

G.A.S ( guitar acquisition syndrome) gets pretty wild.

Thanks for the stories too !

I was in a local GC a week or 2 ago and had the chance to try out a J15, J45 and J35. Of the 3, the J15 just blew me away. Its always hit or miss with those stores... You never know which guitar has new strings and which ones have been played out, but I was incredibly impressed by the sound it put out. I never realized that the bracing of the J35 was not the same as the J45 - I was thinking they were pretty much the same guitar with different wood combinations, but thank you (Sal) for clearing that up.

Good luck with the J15.

Welcome. Guitar sniffing is hazardous to a person's financial stockpile but quite good for the soul. Hope you enjoy your new Gibson or many years to come.
