Raggy Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I intend to fit a strap button on the treble side of the heel on my J45-TV I am undecided on what colour of strap button to go for: I have bone bridge pins fitted but the factory fitted strap button is a screwed in white plastic one and the tuners are plastic white. Normally I would fit a white pin (Bone or Ivoroid) to match the end pin but with so many different colours/shades of white going on I am concerned it will look a mess so I am considering fitting either an Ebony or Cocobolo pin that will blend in with the dark heel on the guitar. Anyone had the same issue and come up with a solution that worked for them? (pics would be nice) Thanks Raggy
duluthdan Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I had a set of white bone pins and button that i soaked in coffee. When they came out, my wife commented on it being strange that I would want "pink" pins on my guitar. Back into the coffee bath they went, and the result was that they looked like wood. I ordered another set of white bone pins, and a white strap button, and installed them in their virgin state, and they look fine. The other pins now grace my Frankenstein guitar.
DenverSteve Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Strap buttons need to be strong and dependable - metal. I match mine to the other hardware - gold tuners = gold buttons. If you have a strap lug at the bottom of your guitar, match the new one to that.
fishstick_kitty Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I try to match the button to the neck so it is more discreet. So, on my AJ, my neck is practically black...so I put a buffalo horn strap button on there with no inlay...looks great.

The TV neck is very dark so I have stuck an Ebony button on it and it is hardly noticeable. Next job is to find a replacement for those awful tuners
