I have a 6 partscasters < Teles and Strats> and I am thinkinhg about refinishing one of them

Here is a picture of 4 of the guitars I am thinking about.

The Tele I built close to 30 years ago. The Partscaster Strats, are between 3 and 4 years old.

I built and painted them here in my shop.

Having my own shop for a number of years, I would hate to guess the amount of guitars I have painted or refinished.

The four guitars shown are in perfect condition, not a scratch, dent, or even a swirl mark from the buffer.

Reason I am thinking about it is, I have 9 guitars now that are black, and a couple red ones.

I am leaning towards repainting the black Strat <partscaster> but I have painted so many guitars just cant deceide on a color.

I am thinking about cobalt blue, or a dark emerald candy green.

Truthfully, I am bored out of my mind, and have been wanting to paint one of these for a while, just not sure on a color.

Should say, I dont want to go sunburst, because <1> I dont want to remove the wood sealer <2> all the bodies are two piece bodies, and to me, I hate to see the wood joint, so I am going with a candy, or pear, or flake.

Dont like logging into the Fender forum any more, too much "bullsh--"

Color suggestions?

That mirror pick guard has to go. It looks like a 1980s dining room wall.

I'd say go flake because I heart sparkles.

Maybe it's Rabs's purple that got me thinking... but a metallic deep rich black cherry finish with a good clear coat to add depth would be slick. Maybe with a real subtle burst pattern. The guitar might look black until the light hits it and then you see it...

Bright Red and white alternate vertical stripes (horizontal when being played) USA flag style! (and then same with another one using royal blue instead of red)

I have thought about re-doing the Tele in a red/white/blue theme, with the flag in a slight wave pattern. I have done that a few times on quater panels of a 56 Chevy <it was strickly a drag car> and a few times on motor cycle tanks.

The blue Rabs posted is kind of different also.

Nice color Rabs, but I have one close to that color already, its a candy pearl orange.

Nice... that's certainly different... what make is it?... the way that neck pup is angled is weird, but kinda cool [thumbup] (and that's one funky bridge/tailpiece its got too :))

How about teal with a parrot pickguard and some paper umbrellas? [rolleyes]

What about Chroma or whatever that color changy stuff is called? That is something I've wanted to see for a long time.

Ok, that's enough from my smart***, I'll sit down & shut up now. [blush]

The Dupont Chromeabase is not cheap. A quart of just the base coat varies from $70.00 and up depending on the shade.

Then there is the reducer, clear, and other misc. items. I would only need about 4 oz. of the base, so I would be buying a lot of paint that would just go to waste.

Kind of like that gold metaflake. Just a mini flake, nothing to big as far as flakes.

I have that base color already, just need the mini flakes.

OK, so you can load a Binks Model 7 up and spray pretty well. What can you do with an air brush?

Try a finish like this that was being done by kids in southern California in the late 50's and early 60's!

I like the idea my daughter had and is putting to use on our FrankenStrat project guitar we're building.

She painted my old Squire Strat body a solid color and is adoring it with painted symbols, dingbats, and such; music symbols, Yin/Yang, text quotes from influential people, all sorts of stuff...

I always kinda liked the liberation of adorning a guitar with stickers and little personalized things that make it one's own and singularly unique to the owner.

Alvin Lee's ES-335 with the peace sticker and all sorts of stuff, Brian Setzer with the pinup girls and dice, things like that...

I get very anal and stressy over allowing tonewoods to breath and resonate and the finishes on my guitars and can't bring myself to do it to one of the ones I own now, so seeing my daughter do this was eye opening to me...

I would like a guitar I can adorn with all the personalized accoutrements that make a statement about me and who I am and my music...

That is a beautiful color on that Strat.

But these bodies are not 1 piece bodies, and the wood joint would be visable. But sure do like that color.

How about inverness green Bill.

Hi Jorge, How ya be? I am not familiar with that green. Do you have some thing to link it to, or a picture of something in that color. My first thought was a green, but a dark emerald candy green.

Thanks Rabs, I was just getting ready to post a picture almost like that one in response to Jorges question.

I found the Les Paul at Sweetwater in the inverness green.

Thats a nice color, not too bright, would look good with an off white pick guard.I am pretty sure I already have a pick guard for it in my stash of parts.

Thanks Rabs, and Jorge. Thats a pretty good idea.
