houndman55 Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Man I tell ya, it would be really cool if gibson had a standard L5 line (Pre-electric) like they did in the 30's, 40's and 50's. I mean that stuff is like the foundation of modern archtop jazz guitar, both acoustic and electric. Besides there are several advantages of that type of guitar I.E. you can't drop your pick in the f-holes like you do with a oval sound hole, It's easier and faster to change strings compared to bridge pins and not to mention they look super cool. Can they be made by Gibson Custom on special order?
blindboygrunt Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Can we see pictures of your big wooden spoon ?? :D
jannusguy2 Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 There are re-issues floating around out there. I see them regularly .
zombywoof Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I love round soundhole archtops. I have played Gibsons but here is where I leave the fold. My favorite and the one one that turned out to be the keeper was a mid-1930s Kay Kraft. One of the last made with the Zorzi adjustable neck. It combines the mids and punch of a good archtop with the fatness of an acoustic. On top of that it remains the most wicked wood body slide guitar I have ever gotten my hands on.
