Gibson Artist
Got this in a trade but im not quite sure what it is? The seller told me it was a Gibson Les Paul 50s Tribute with a 50s thick type neck. I held it up to my Orville Les Paul and it had a noticeably thicker neck But when i looked at the headstock it doesnt say Tribute anywhere, it just says Studio? Also, he said the Fretboard is made of ebony, its kinda shiny black looking,im not sure if they even make that on Studios that often do they? The serial checks out fine, it just looks to me like a LP Studio with gold hardware and an ebony board, but he insists the tag back in 07 said tribute. Could the store tag be wrong? I looked on back of headstock and all around but could only find the words Studio and he had no case candy since its a 2007. Can anyone help?? Ryan H
Yup...it's an Alpine White Studio. Gold hardware and an ebony board. Saw dozens of them come in when I used to work at a Gibson dealer... -Ryan

capmaster
There have been Les Paul Studio 50's Tributes with humbuckers, but I think yours is a Studio. The Tributes I know of had chrome hardware and open coil 490R/498T combos with black bobbins. I'm not sure though. Posting serial number and links to pics using this form will help in clarifying: http://www2.gibson.com/Gibson/Talk-2-Us.aspx
Ryan H
Out of curiousity, were they anymore expensive than the avg Studio? I'm pretty sure there was an upcharge. We could order the white or black Studios with chrome hardware and RW board or Gold hardware and an Ebony board. I'm pretty sure it was Gibson's way of offering a "Working Man's Custom" before they came up with the Classic Custom. -Ryan

pippy
The seller...insists the tag back in 07 said Tribute. Could the store tag be wrong?... AFAIK the Tribute series was only introduced to the range in 2012. P.
Riffster
The tributes started in 2010, the year of the flood here in Nashville. Many folks in here were upset by the delay in production. I do think the white/ebony combo was like $100 more. If you like ebony boards may want to hang on to this one, I doubt Gibson will use ebony on a USA line guitar any time soon. buliwyf
I had one exactly like yours about 10 years ago I bought at GC used. It was a 1996,the only pic,s I have are on film.Same thing as yours white with gold hardware and an ebony fret board.I remember looking up some stuff and around 95,96 Gibson had a bunch of ebony that wasnt dark enough or up to specks to put on their upscale models. So they used it up by putting the ebony (still nice wood)on the model they made and sold the most of those years, the Studios.Mine had a serious killer tone and looked beautiful.Just be carefull what color the inside of your case is.I had bought a nice Gibson case with the pinkish inside and the shroud and the white paint picked up some color from the case inside I got some pink/purplish streaks on the top of the body and the back of the neck. Can you please post the serial number of you new guitar and BTW the white and gold is my favorite color combo, congrats on you new axe. btoth76
Hello! I had an all-black '92 Studio with the same features, plus gold keystone tuning pegs. Cheers... Bence
deeman
I have an '06 studio. It's just a plain ol' studio, none of that tribute horse-****. Beware of the stand you're using, the foam will kill the nitro finish.

deeman
A stand with cloth is safe.
Marshall Paul
It's a studio. Easy way to tell, run your fingers around the body edges feeling for signs of any binding. Binding, custom, no binding, studio. Best.
daveinspain
An easier way to tell is have a look at what it says on the truss rod cover….

capmaster
An easier way to tell is have a look at what it says on the truss rod cover…. Wouldn't be of help with mine. I prefer blank truss rod covers.
BobF_
The lack of neck binding and trap inlays tells instantly it's not a Custom, along with the headstock inlay, etc. It's a very nice looking Studio for sure.
