The guitar he is playing is a Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion...but I have no idea who the player is

Any idea what year that guitar might have been made? This might help to identify the player.

Hmmm, tricky to pin down the year, but I believe natural finish versions of this model were available between 2002 - 2009, but you never know as the guitar could have been a one off or custom order before these years.

 

This model was first available in 1979...hopefully someone might be able to pinpoint a year for you. Looks like a groovy player in the photo

I believe the player pictured is Cornell Dupree, a very prolific session man, especially during the 70's.

Not a bad guess, but I don't think so (facial features... nose, beard, etc... are wrong).

 

I posted the question on a jazz forum, and somebody suggested Michael Howell. I'm not totally convinced, but I'd definitely suggest him before Dupree.

Howell looks like a better match, but I can't find many pics online.

Maybe I will send him the pic at Legendary sound studios and see what he thinks!

 

It's a friend's photo, a thrift store purchase from NH I believe.
